Depends what you want from exfoliation. Glycolic acid works on a surface level so won't have much effect if it's blemishes you want gone but if dull/dry skin build up is your problem then it's great.
Salicylic acid is what to go for to clear out pores on a deeper level.
I'm currently using an exfoliant with both in, Nip+Fab Glycolic fix. I would recommend it, I've had noticeable improvement using it.

As for a moisturiser that makes you shine free, Clinique moisture surge extended thirst relief is excellent. Leave you very matte and shine free afterwards but works very well as a moisturiser.

It burns your face because it has alcohol in it. It's shit tier stuff. Awful for your skin.

Get Witch Hazel Rose Petal toner on Amazon. Cheap and literally the BEST shit on the market, alcohol free. Works incredibly so. get some of that jajoba oil or whatever its called too.

And if you're one of those people that, like me, hates faggot hippies that talk about MUH NATURAL NON CHEMICAL MUH MUH NATURAL shit, don't be scared, this shit works.

Of course they sell it with that stupid rhetoric, but it still works great.

>> No.10161578

I'm guessing there's alcohol in the second one?
It's likely the foaming action on the first is drying your skin out (foaming agents increase skin pH which wrecks the acid mantle and makes it prone to drying out and easily accessible to bacteria) and the alcohol is just adding insult to injury. Generally gel/cream/balm cleansers are more gentle but balms might be too rich if it's just everyday grime you're removing and not the make up many of them are formulated for.

A lot of people on here swear by Cetaphil's cleanser. I've never used it so can't personally recommend based on experience, but for everyday gunk it's probably a good shout.

>You don't want to exfoliate too much though or your skin ends up looking like gritting paper. 2-4 times a week just before sleeping is usually fine. If you shave your face, everywhere the razor runs over is exfoliated.

Using a lower concentration bha where you shave should be fine once a week or so but any kind of physical exfoliation might just make it sore.

Where you don't shave should be fine to exfoliate physically if you want (although chemical tends to be more effective) and to put higher concentrations of aha or bha on more regularly.

In a way, yes.

Most ordinary mechanical scrub products has pieces in them that are way too big, as well as sharp. For example: sugar crystals, apricot kernels, pieces of walnut/almond shells (St. Ives)...

As they are pushed and ground against the skin, they penetrate deep in that specific location and can create small tears in the skin [1]. The skin then becomes red/irritated/painful in general, without having been exfoliated as effectively as it could have been.

The pieces ordinarily used in most products are simply too big to get to majority of the much smaller "dead skin" residues, while at the same time hurting the skin.

Using much smaller particles (for example, aluminium oxide), as in microdermabrasion, is much better at preventing the major tears that are created when using bigger pieces. The smaller particles only act on the most superficial parts of the skin, and don't cut their way deep into the skin. Skin residues are removed more effectively and safely.

There's still a risk of general skin irritation though, since the procedure often removes a bit more than it has to. Overly harsh.

Chemical exfoliation can be so much more effective as well as gentle, if used in small enough concentrations over time (multiple applications). Deep scars/pigmentation can sometimes need high-concentration chemical peels, but lasers are mostly GOAT.

[1]: These small tears actually mostly don't cause "microscars" as many people believe, as the wounds are very small and heal very fast - and therefore (almost) no excess collagen will be left in the area.

Some of them are listed in the general guide in the FAQ. If you're looking for alternatives online, search on Amazon and sort by review score to find the good stuff. There are plenty of cheap products around.

Made this to help people with oily/combo skin like me. After years of trial and error and 100s of £ spent on skincare products, these are what i've settled on, and my skin looks better than ever.

Top row is for every day use, bottom row is optional, but recommended. I use the AHA at night and the BHA in the morning, and the face mask once a week.

Saying that, if you're skin is more dry than oily, you'd probably be better off finding another moisturiser, as gel ones are meant for oily skin.

I have very small, somewhat purple bumps in a line beneath both my eyes. When I talked with my dermatologist about it, he said they were oil glands in a transition zone between the skin on your face and around your eyes, and that they were natural. I guess I've never looked close enough on other people to notice them, but he had them as well and I guess women hide it beneath make-up. Even if they are natural, is there any way I can minimize their appearance? Maybe even basic make-up might work. Does anyone have a solution for whatever this is?

Can you guys give me some tips regarding moisturiser. I've only really started exploring the world of skincare. I now wash my face twice a day but I really struggle with moisturiser.

I'm pretty sure my skin is rarely, if ever dry, so do I still need it? The times I have used it, my skin just goes really shiny and it looks horrible. it's a shame because on the other hand, I do like how my skin feels.

Thanks

I have A rash of bumps i have on my chest.. ew i know. Anyway I went to the dermo, and they said its not cancerous, basically theres nothing bad about it besides the atheistic look. I dont have good insurance so I couldnt afford for them to remove them all. I could barley afford the visit itself (I just needed to know if they were cancerous).

They gave me All Trans Retunoic Acid 0.025%
At first I didnt use it much, it was a hassle, and i read online it was for like aging so i figured I just got scammed and payed for some stupid cream. Recently I tried again, and applied about twice the amount they have recommended and I noticed a difference, the size of the bumps have all been reduced, and It seems like ive seen drastic change over a week or so. My question is has anyone else done this before, if so can i buy more of this cream without going to a doctor itself/maybe get a higher dose 0.05? The cream was so expensive at the doctor becuase of no insurance and it was a really expensive doc. So I know I can get it cheaper.

Sebaceous filaments are an uphill battle, and will fill back up inevitably. However, the oil cleansing method, BHAs, konjac sponge can all help to reduce the appearance and temporarily remove them

Using pure mineral oil as part of OCM or double cleansing can help dissolve the oil in your pores and effectively clean them out while being non-comedogenic at the same time.

If you're using Paula's Choice BHA, it should be clearing out your SFs, unless you've gotten a bad batch or whatever. Using this in conjuction before OCM can really give a deep clean.

If all else fails, I've found that konjac sponges reliably clear out my SFs when used with a gentle cleanser. They're made from the starch from the yam-like konjac plant, which happens to also be used to make konyakku noodles and other Japanese food. It's a pretty gentle form of physical exfoliation and it's safe to use everyday. If I'm desperate to get them out, I'd use it with a cleanser and focus on the sides of my face for a good minute or 2 and they are pretty much completely gone when I'm done cleansing. It can be left a little sensitive after so follow through with a good moisturiser.

>>10202870
Alcohol can age your skin by drying it out, but it's mainly used to allow ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin. People with more sensitive skin can find this to be an irritant, but the general population should be fine with it. In the case of sunscreen, it should generally contain enough emollients to counteract this, but either way, the benefits of UV protection should far outweigh the slight, if any harms of the ingredient list. Not all sunscreens contain alcohol, if you're THAT worried I'm sure there are many formulations for sensitive skin that omit the ingredient.

Yes, I have found a few that don't, but only online.

Thanks.

I spent about 5 minutes at my local shops just looking through all the different sunscreens for ingredients the other day.

What's your thoughts on ppl using Castor Oil in their recipe of oil cleaning?

OCM = Oil cleansing method. It is exactly what it means, where oil replaces your cleanser, but applied on dry skin before a shower. You will need to take some extra time to massage it into your face though. The mentality is that oil dissolves oil and can give a deeper clean while not stripping the skin of it's moisture. Alternatively, you can follow through with a normal cleanser, or one that foams to double cleanse and get rid of the oily residue if it doesn't agree with your skin. Do some research on OCM, there plenty of good resources about it.

I've heard good things about the mineral oil used for oiling wooden cutting boards, since many say that it's far more pure than what you can get at the pharmacy. You can get those at cooking supply stores. In a pinch baby oil can do, preferably unfragranced. I use Pond's cold cream since it is far more convenient for me, however it does have some extra additives.

I'm sure you can add castor oil to your mix since it does have a lot of benefits, but it is a drying oil and can't be use undiluted. I personally don't use it since I'm pretty lazy, and I don't have a lot of experience with it so I can't really pass much judgment on that. Reddit's r/skincareaddiction/ is a surprisingly good resource and I'm sure they have a guide on this.

I have experimented with both BP and SA for whiteheads. In my experience, used SA works way better for my skintype and it can be used up to 3 times a day.

If I were you, I'd definitely recommend giving a try. Try to get Paula's Choice 2% SA or Stridex Maximum Strength oads (2%). As to where to get them in Canada, I can not help.

>>10208561
These are just enlarged pores. Use a chemical exfoliant, preferably Salicylic Acid (SA) because it will unclog your pores and help reduce the appearance of them.

>>10210386
Don't use it. Simply wait it out. Chemical exfoliants, BHA/AHA, can help diminish the PIH without being too harsh on your skin.

>>10210829
For some, yes. The darker they are, the longer they take to fade. Some spots can take up to a year to fade. The PIH is caused by a pocket of melanin. Meaning, the sun can cause them to get darker. Your best best is to always use a sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight on the spots. (Not your whole body because Vitamin D is necessary for healthy skin).

As for attractiveness of a person, it is always up to discrepancy. Everyone will think differently. Personally, my skin is decent but far from perfect. I still have no problems with girls. Will you be more attractive with perfect skin? Yes. Should you let that ruin your confidence? No.

>>10211761
Use 2% Salicylic Acid. Either Stridex Max Strength Pads or Paulas Choice 2% BHA.

Any homemade recommendations for acne spots?

Most of the products recommended are not avaliable in my country. The good ones I find are too expensive, and I am saving my money.

My nose used to get all gross, but now I keep it clean.

I have a cleaning tool/acne extractor which I used, and since then I have been using a salicylic acid cleanser during the day, and then a regular cleanser at night. I also try to clean my face after exercising.

During the day I use DermaE day moisturizer. I love that stuff. During the night I use rosehip oil since it looks greasy, but I wake up with my skin looking great.
