Definitely! Look into niche scents.
Masque Milano's Russian Tea might be right up your alley, or Cloon Keen Atelier, or perhaps some Penhaligon's scents.
My personal favourites are Oriza L. Legrand fragrances which tend to be very woody.
Those are just the ones I've had experience with.

That's retarded. Chanel and especially Hermes produce some of the best scents, niche or not. And Bvlgari focuses on jewelry and accessories ffs and they are one of the better designer houses w/r/t fragrance.

Buy some testers or go to a mall and smell them there. Fragrances work different way on a different person's skin, but i think Nautica Voyage is worth trying! I would suggest YSL Body Kouros or some of the fragrances from Chanel. That nautica voyage is more of an summer/spring scent so you should buy also a scent for fall/winter. I suggest you to try YSL La nuit de'l homme, though some frag autists will laugh at this but i think it is a very nice scent for fall/winter. But try to buy a scent that you like, it is the most important fact when buying a scent because if you like the scent you will be more confident

I tell you what /fa/, this is the absolute best cologne ever.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on different colognes, and this one has one of the most attractive scents, doesn't smell harsh or sting the nose, and lasts all day every time.
Best part about it?

Decent sized bottle costs only $50.

You only need one or two squirts to smell amazing and masculine all day.

more:

generally the nicer dept stores have bigger/better/costlier selection. they also have more knowledgeable people working there

coffee beans are a good way to clear your nose and good places will have a little jar you can sniff in between trying scents.

the really clean smelling 'sport' scents are usually pretty bad, but for some reason basic bitches love them so if that's what you're after..

lots of people will use price and house name as an indicator of quality but there are loads of frags that are perfectly fine for cheaper. heaven forbid you shell out for a tom ford or something b/c you recognize the name and then are over it a week later when your crush wrinkles their nose after catching a whiff

but adding the first thing I do is sniff the cap. That gets you more "base notes" rather than "top notes." Also, buying something after smelling it once in a store is barely better than blind buying imo. I need to wear it several times to see how it smells on me in all stages of development, not to mention longevity, so taking home a sample is mandatory.

Oh, also spray the outside of your wrist if you have hair there. Hair radiates scent differently than bare skin.

But bottom line, your nose gets tired after a bit even with coffee beans (which are always stale ime) so don't think you're gonna decide between twelve scents in one visit.

Look, all of those brands you listed don't have their own perfumers. Hard to believe but they paid a company to make their perfume. Chanel and Hermes have their own perfumers. Jean claude works for Hermes. He is their super star. Once you get deep into the world of fragrance you would regret buying that bottle of dior farenheit or ysl la nuit or gucci guilty or bleu de chanel. Stick wth niche fragrances. Go to barneys new york and you will see the dramatic difference between nordstroms clothing company fragrances (their eau de toilletes so they dont project well and last well and trash) and niche fragrance houses that actually know what they are doing and making (Odin, Dyptique, Serge lutens)

Yeah, her first fragrance is kind of innovative I guess because she noted how the fluid is actually completely black in the bottle, and comes out clear, but I don't really know about the smell.

Both fragrances are unisex:

First one is called "Fame" (2013)
>"According to promotional materials, the perfume uses "push-pull technology", rather than the pyramidal structure traditional of perfumes, to combine notes of atropa belladonna, tiger orchid, incense, apricot, saffron and honey. As of 2013, the perfume has sold more than 30 million bottles and has earned more than 1.5 billion dollars worldwide."

>"Uniquely, Fame is a black perfume that sprays clear and becomes invisible once airborne; according to the Coty press release, it is the first perfume to utilize such technology."

>"Reports circulated in early 2011 that Gaga wanted the perfume to smell of blood and semen.[7] However, the singer stated that while the perfume was based on the molecular structure of the two substances, it would not smell of them. She further explained that the blood element was based on a sample her own blood molecules to create "a sense of having me on your skin".[8] Rather than blood and semen, she said that the perfume would smell like an "expensive hooker".[8] The packaging lists the perfume's notes as "tears of belladonna, crushed heart of tiger orchidea with a black veil of incense, pulverized apricot and the combinative essences of saffron and honey drops".[9] According to the product packaging, instead of the pyramidal structure used in most perfumes, Lady Gaga Fame uses "push-pull technology", where the ingredients demonstrate aspects of each note without precedence.[6] Rather than utilizing top, middle, and base notes, the perfume is based on three accords – "dark" (containing the Belladonna notes), "sensual" (containing the honey, saffron, and apricot notes), and "light" (containing the Tiger Orchid notes) which come together to produce a floral, fruity scent."

Thanks to you and the others for input, I'm sure it's legit. I can't check that site since I threw out the box already. How many sprays do you typically use, and where? With my colognes I usually do them on each side of my neck, then I pull my shirt down in front to spray my chest, then sometimes I even spray the back of my neck / hair. Even with all that, I can't really smell much of this one. And I know about nose fatigue, but it's just odd that I can't smell it even after a handful of minutes.

I tried some fragrances at the shops today. Mostly vetiver and aquatic stuff. May have been olfactory fatigue but the vetivers smelt almost identical, likewise for the aquatic ones.
I find sweet scents quite sickly so that rules out a lot of popular choices for my age (20). I do like these, particularly green irish tweed once the top notes fade but they remind me of old men and so I don't think they'd suit me.
Any suggestions?

Azzaro pour Homme - Brutal anise and lavender punch in the face. Dirt cheap, and maybe one day it will click with me, so keeping it.
The Third Man - Probably the most cloying scent I own. As someone who loves "old man" fragrances, this is way too old mannish for me.
Caron Pour un Homme - Another classic I dislike. A softer lavender that reminds me of Pla Dough.
Zino Davidoff - I used to like this, but it now smells too synthetic.

Plenty more, but these are my least favorite. All blind buys.
