currently applying paulas choice 5% benzoyl peroxide 3x a day with really good success.

I used to use neutrogena once and night and it never actually did much. Highly recommend uzing BP very often to get rid of the acne.

Now that new acne has almost stopped forming, I am going to start exfoliating to get rid of the scars

I only wear it when I go out during peak hours or bring it to college in the morning, otherwise I'm mostly cooped up inside far away from any windows (which have thick curtains on them anyway) so I don't bother. If I'm taking my dog outside at half 10 in the evening or something there's really no point.
>What if you hop in the pool, do you immediately run and reapply your sunblocker?
If applied right before, waterproof sunscreen should theoretically provide protection in the water for 80 minutes max. Most of the time it melts off around the 60 minute mark, in my experience.

As a mixed race guy without mainstream mixed race privilege (check it) I have great barriers to /fa/

I lived in a certain Asian country for example and was unable to follow any fashion trends (mah hairy legs in short shorts, no way). For example clothes never fit my shape, or suited me. Hair care products did not do anything good to my hair (99% of the time any shampoo I tried would make my hair go frizzy and static and stick up like I had been using one of these electric globes). I also have combination skin. One half of me is from a hot dry climate and the people there are (hairy or smooth) had skin which was silky smooth as fuck, and you could just brush water off like water off a ducks back. The other half of me is from somewhere soo cold it chaps your skin, but not the natives. Then you get me, someone who had all those generations of evolution undone and sweats like a pig in the heat and skin goes all fucked in the cold all because my mum loved that middle eastern cock.

Anyway. Pic related. After years of trial and error I have the perfect grooming routine.

This is literally amazing. It is expensive as fuck, but just a tiny dot of it foams up and so it lasts forever. It gets rid of black heads, removes ALL oil on your face without drying it at all. It also works wonders on my mixed hair-type beard.

I'd definitely attribute them to the grease and oil environment. I had a job interview once at a steel works, and just spending half an hour in that place caused 2 huge spots to form on my face just a few hours later. Places like that along with fast food restaurants are a nightmare for people with acne-prone skin. You should still lay off the soda though, it's no good for you, even the diet stuff.

>1 ONE

Do you have a spotty face or similar issue?

If yes, how often do you wash, at high temperatures with adequate and ideally antibacterial detergents, your pillowcase (or rest of your bed lining for that matter, you dirty fuck)

Does it have a pillow protector cover.

I thought so.

>2 TWO
Do you wash your hair BEFORE your face in the shower? Not doing this lets greece run back onto your face after you shower.

Wash your hair properly, rinse, and then use a high quality non-gimmicky face wash to cleanse your face. Don't use regular shower gel or soap as this will dehydrate your face causing it to grease up more.

>3 THREE
Do you use the same towel on your face as you do the rest of your body? DOIE

Get a fucking FACE TOWEL and USE IT. Don't use it for any other purpose other than your face (not even your hands). Make sure that it is quality. I'm talking Egyptian Silk but don't be retarded and get one of those super absorbent towels. Wash this regularly in anti bacterial detergent (I.e. use regular detergent and pic related-- one scoop in every wash; never use fabric softener on bed sheets or towels as it prevents the absorption of water/sweat (you want your bed lining to absorb the oil rather than it sitting on your skin, this way you can wash it clean each week)). There is a trade off between super high quality facial towels and washing durability.

>4 FOUR
Make sure you use a proper facial moisturiser (and facial wash, for that matter) that is specific to your type of skin. The biggest mistake is either going full durp and buying some gimmicky anti-bacterial tea-tree oil crap that feels oily and nasty to apply. Think carefully. Just because it has exfoliating beads, salicylic acid and some nice anti-bacterial smell, it doesn't mean that it is any good: it would be cheaper and more effective in this case to crush a suicide-kit worth of aspirin (who gets why?), add a few drops of tea-trea oil and loofer it onto your face.

You can get blotting pads/tissues to dab your face and remove sweat and oil without removing makeup as you would wiping it. You can use a primer before applying your BB cream, which will hold the makeup better without feeling too heavy. Look into one that suits your skin type. As for mascara, you need to find something that's water proof and quality. There are ones that dry well and don't rub off. They make eyelash primers but I dunno if they work.

Not rubbing your eyes all the time is literally a habit you have to break when wearing makeup. You'll get used to it. When my eyes get itchy now, I dab at them with my pinky. For sweatiness, use powder (at least as final layer). For dryness, use liquids.

Well that isn't helpful to my point. I am looking for types. Even the type of sweat you have. How smooth your skin is etc.

I would say coco butter moisturiser about 5 times a day, ideally with added vitamin E (note: I mean a moisturiser with cocoa butter, not coco butter its self, like pic related). Apply sparingly and rub in well.

Before bed apply high quality extra virgin olive oil. Yes the stuff you cook with. And I mean the quality stuff. The first press. Not some crap you got from Asda (Walmart) that is labelled extra virginal olive oil. Apply to a cotton swab (Q-tip) and gently rub it in along the scar.

Do this ever day for a month and you will see differences that will make you keep it up for a year. Seriously, get a bottle of pic related and carry it in your bag everywhere you go.

Apply after your morning shower. When you arrive at work. Once around 11am, lunch, between lunch and home, after you get home and once before bed by like 2 hours.

It sounds like a lot but it will become routine soon enough. You may as well moisturise your hands whilst you do this. It doesn't take extra effort. And DONT go overboard: apply sparingly. Less is more. Applying too much doesn't help. Applying sparingly frequently is how you get the stuff to be more effective.

How long ago was you scared? I may change my product recommendation.

Yes.

But based on what you say I will swap my recommended product for one that targets deeper layers of tissue. The best ones on a microscopic level have lipit balls which carry the active ingredients into the deeper layers of tissue before releasing them.

I think Vaseline moisturizers are incredible examples of mainstream products that really do work across-the-board.

I don't work for them (promise).

One more question. I assume this is a bad cut as you're worried about per scaring. Because of your mix, what is your pigmentation like. Do scars last as a change in pigmentation on you?

What I circled is the puncture. It was basically a deep hole between my thumb and pointer. It's just a discolored lump now. The two lacerations are similar in color. Usually scars on my legs or something turn light and are darkish around them but these are just dark. I'm pretty sure my hand skin is darker in pigmentation compared to where the scars are on my legs. (Which have pretty much faded)

do what I say to do, but do it to your whole hands because you may as well. The issue yu may have is keratin build up. From this, the patch may stay allows for a while unless you treat it carefully (keep it moisturised NAO!).

You can deal with the colour change later (if it is permanent), but for now your biggest concern should be moisturised. Use the second product I told you, at least five times a day. Apply a sparing amount to your hands (but not too little!!). After a week you will feel and see the difference.

How can I go about getting some color? I don't think I've ever been tan in my life. I don't want to have a full tan, but just a little color. Whenever I see my skin under one of those white-yellow lights it looks really great, and I imagine getting some tan will do the same. I'm imagining it will help mask the slight redness I have left over from pimples, mainly around my nose and brow and forehead.
I also have some "wrinkles" with a bit of redness on my forehead. I say wrinkles in quotation marks because they're very faint but still noticeable. Any tips on this?

I was on prescription stuff through high school and it never got bad enough to be prescribed Accutane and never really got better.

I'm now using this cheap japanese face wash that I like a lot.

Morning:
Face wash
AHA
(Sometimes spot treat with 10% benzoyl)
Sunscreen moisturizer

Night:
Face wash
Tretinoin
Moisturizer

I just started with both the aha and Tretinoin so my skin is kinda itchy but I've dealt with it before and know it will go away.

I don't really have bad skin but I get a few breakouts here and there and would like to get rid of them.

Anyone have any recommendations? Am I doing this right?

Worse break outs are right around my mouth and hair line (this always happens when it's hot outside)

>Worse break outs are right around my mouth and hair line (this always happens when it's hot outside)
Conclusion: Easily blockable pores.
In some countries like you can buy a pack of 10 tissues, you can buy a pack of 10 thin squares of material which absorb oils on your face. Buy this and always tend to your hair line.

Always properly wash your hair, twice a day in a way that is suitable for your hair type.

Do you wash your mouth after you eat? You should. Forget just wiping it or leaving it. Wash it with soap and pat dry. White people are dirty in this respect (same with the just wiping their asses, but this is for another thread).

Maybe you dribble in your sleep and this also causes you the mouth problems.

Yes.

You probably do not need one. Your face will tell you if you need some other product. If it makes your face red and painful, or makes it really shiny, then you should probably try something else.

>how often/when should i be using it

As often as you feel like it, as long as your skin doesn't get irritated by it. You'll notice if you get dry/irritated. I would recommend you to just use it in the evening, and then in the morning as well if you feel the need.

I've had pretty bad acne for ~10 years now. The thing that has helped me make it better is to have a good varied diet. I was under eating for most of my life and fixing my diet has done wonders for my skin. Going outside in the sun helps too.

All these face washes n shit have been a waste of time for me. If anything my skin feels progressively greasier when I wake up in the mornings after using them. If I stop using any face wash and just rinse with water my face feels normal again.

I've noticed that consuming milk and variety of dairy products makes the problem a lot worse really quickly. Also salami, that shit makes me break out after a few days. Basically read up on some foods that can trigger acne and stop eating them for a week and see if anything improves.

Try fixing the problem from within before splashing out 100$ on facial products.

it's kind of hard to affect the internal oil production of the skin just like that, actually.

if you want to make it less likely that you dry your skin out, then just shower for shorter periods of time using a bit colder water and gentler cleansers in smaller amounts.

to shower often is actually not that harmful to the skin as long as it is done right.

Just thought I'd show the progress, this is probably over about a 2 month period. Was pretty terrible taking the shots of my acne at its worst point, but now it feels good looking back at how bad it was. Also taking zinc, fish oil, and vitamin D supplement seemed to help as well. As far as diet goes, I have been doing a very dirty bulk the entire time, which includes a huge amount of dairy, milk, carbs, and "dirty foods". So for myself personally, I don't think diet has had much of an effect.

Still not very attractive, but it feels good having one less thing to be self conscious about.

Apply vitamin E directly from the punctured capsule onto the skin if you suffer from extremely dry skin, eczema or psoriasis. The pure vitamin E oil can help to hydrate the skin, and you won't need to use expensive or synthetic moisturizing products. Give the vitamin E plenty of time to work. The Deep Fitness website notes that it may take months to achieve results with vitamin E capsules.

Re. your pores - they will appear smaller as various debris (excess oil, dirt, dead skin) is removed from them. Cleansing as well as using AHA/BHA will help with this.

Retinoid treatment can help improve elasticity of the the skin, and prevent it from "sagging". This is more applicable for older people, though. Sunscreen will prevent photodamage and later loss of elasticity in the skin, and later enlarged pores.

Btw, try to make sure that the spots you have on your skin are in fact dark spots (pigment) and not red/purple spots (erythema/lingering blood vessels). For both hyperpigmentation and the scars, I would just ask you to see a derm. Hyperpigmentation can be tricky.

Until then, use a sunscreen.

good to hear it has improved.

as with other antibiotics, doxycycline is intended to target the bacteria p. acnes in the skin - one of the main perps in acne. it's good at decreasing the amount of "inflammatory lesions" (mostly papules/pustules) in the skin. don't forget to write in-thread about how it turns out for you.

>>10123091
>>10141325
dry/sensitive skin: low sebum/oil production. this kind of skin is characterized by tightness (low elasticity), redness, red spots, flaking spots, pain, cracks. countered with gentler washing routines and cleansers, and different moisturizers.

oily skin: high oil production. the skin is oily and visibly shiny, sometimes has enlarged pores, and often has some kind of acne. countered with growing out of puberty, oil-free cleansers and moisturizers, matte makeup, occasional diet change, not over-washing the skin, and accutane.

(ab)normal skin: usually refers problem-free skin, even though this is highly unusual. balanced oil production that doesn't leave the skin dry and hurting, nor excessively oily/shiny/acne-prone.

combination skin: both the issues of dry skin and oily skin in different areas (you can also have "normal" skin in some areas). generally these people are oily in the "T-zone" (nose, forehead, below the mouth) and drier on the cheeks/sides of mouth. countered by spot-treating the zones, and a gentle treatment overall.

Note that the above is a simplified generalization of a more complex situation. People are generally somewhere in between the different types, depending on the circumstances.

Your skin may be all of these things during different periods of your life, as a result of hormone changes, seasonal change (air humidity drop during winter, mainly), diet, skin care routine, washing habits...

if this was informative/helpful to you, then please let me know.
if it's not helping people, then it's a waste of my time.

My derm said I could use over the counter things on top of what I'm prescribed to fight my acne. Would this be good to fight small spots?

Thanks.

>> No.10142345

>>10142300

First of all, you don't wash off liquid exfoliant. Second, yes you should use it. You rub it into your face and it gets deep in all your pores, cleaning any dirt that's in there and preventing any more from getting in.

Also if you start using it you must wear a sunscreen everyday, because it will make your skin extra sensitive to the sun. Unless you sit inside all day with the curtains closed, then you don't need to..

Accutane occasionally causes flare-ups in the beginning of the treatment, but it doesn't work because it "concentrates your acne" or anything. It works by killing off the sebaceous glands, which prevents future acne.

This stuff either works super well or turns your skin into pustule plaza.

I used this wash along with the toner when I was in my teens to clear up the horrible oil slick and zits on my face. It tingled a little when I first used it, which was a nice sensation but after rinsing my face felt horrifically tight and dry. I, being a stupid child, went on to use the toner and good god it burned like a son-of-a-bitch.

I stopped using the toner after that day due to the pain and went on to just using the wash and a light moisturizer. My face broke out in the worst fashion within a week of using it. I went back to the store and they explained it as a "purging" symptom and that it would be resolved within the month. 3 weeks later and I was breaking out in irritated, almost itchy acne.

I tossed the stuff. However, it worked perfectly for a friend of mine.

I have always had bad blackhead problems. Drinking water alone helps only slightly, but it isnt a miracle cure (I drink water exclusively, with coffee and beer on the side).

So about a year ago I did a bunch of research on skin care. I even came here and asked for advice. No product ever worked, and I was tired of using medical products because they were all the same to me.

So then I discovered bentonite clay. A raw mineral which has the power to absorb well over its own weight. I was going to buy a pack of raw clay but discovered that my dad had some skin care product with bentonite in it, with a bunch of other chemicals. It's called Queen Helen Mint Julep Masque

And it actually helps out a great deal. I use it every other day. I still have a few oversized pores and blackheads that just wont go away. But it is a considerable improvement of what my face looked like before I used it.

So fast-forward to now and I just bought my first pack of raw bentonite clay. I may come back here after a week or so of using it and tell you all what happens. I have positive expectations because the Mint Julep worked so well for me.

I thought I would share this story for anyone who has the same blackhead problems as me. Hopefully we will find a solution!
