My seiko skx007 broke and I feel like it's too cheap to justify repairing. Should I cop this as a replacement?

Please, just don't bother.

>> No.10089121

Buy another 007, it's such a good watch. The Squale is supposed to be pretty nice too though, I was on the verge of copping one myself and I still might next time I want another diver. My only problem with it is that I just don't like the dial text or that weird symbol top left by the 12 marker, all that stuff makes the dial kind of a mess and the only part of it I like is the cool shark logo.

I wouldn't cop that particular Squale. It's very well made, etc. bit it looks like a Rolex Sub knock-off. You're going to feel like shit when people are gonna say "is that a Rolex?" and you'll say "no, a Squale". Other Squale watches are very well made and most look original.

Alternatively get pic related Citizen NY0040. Comparable if not better than the 007.

Yeah well if you wear that citizen people are going to ask "is that a 007" and you'll have to sheepishly reply "n-no it's a citizen b-but it's arguably b-better anyway".

Actually they won't ask because nobody knows what a 007 is, but my point is that who gives a shit about that if you're wearing a homage that you like and that is a good watch in its own right.

You are gay. Automatic, or self-winding, means that the watch winds itself with the kinetic movement of your wrist because of a rotor inside of it which oscillates. You don't have to wind it as long as you wear it at least every other day (avg. power reserve in most mechanical watches is about 48 hrs).

I have a 20 atmos but it's classic not maxi like your pic. I recommend it. One of the best sub homages under $500. The brand also has great history so it gets a lot more respect around WIS if that kinda things matters to you.

At first I thought the 40mm case would be a bit too small, like you I wore a SKX007 before hand and for about a week it felt too small compared to the seiko. Now I look at it and it feels quite big.
I am thinking about getting my cyclops taken off it though.

I believe Zeppelin and Junkers are made on the same factory (check out garde.de) by a former Ruhla factory, their watches used to be known for being reverse watertight (let water in, no way to get it out).

Like other German manufacturers in this price range, they use Miyota/ETA mechanical movements or Sellita/Ronda quartz ones. Garde even lists some models with Russian Zarya movements (quartz), I wonder where do they get them, the factory is dead for 15-20 years maybe.

Zeppelin and Junkers are not historical watch brands, if you consider buying German watch, take a look at (more to less expensive)

- Nomos - for great Bauhaus/Minimalist pieces (oh my, Ahoi Atlantic is gorgeous)

- Sinn - tough as nails, perfectly finished tool watches, scratch resistant, shock proof, watertight and overall badass

- Muhle Glashutte - tool watches and 'classical Saxonian' watches

- Stowa - nicely finished Nazi Pilots, again some Bauhaus, consider looking at Partitio

- Laco, Aristo, Archimede (especially Laco) for pilots and tool and Bauhaus models, these would use Japanese movements along with Swiss ones, but they are older and better known factories.

In general, look at Germans if you want one of the following:
- Bauhaus/minimalist/no-nonsense design
- My little Flieger Luftwaffe is magic
- Good tool/field watch
- Distinctive Saxonian style watch, with big date, moon phase etc.

I didn't mention Lange because it's very expensive and Damasko because I don't really like them, they are similar to Sinn.

// I'm waiting for my (cheap) Nomos to arrive this month and I like German watches in general, thinking of getting myself a (cheaper) Sinn and maybe a Stowa later.

Maybe a nato? But they don't usually look good on watches (imo) with "hooded" lugs, which your watch appears to have.

My goal was to assemble a collection of watches with different styles. My target styles were Minimalist, Maximalist, Digital and Mechanical.

Minimalist: Skagen 858XLSLDN with black band
Maximalist: Timex T2M516 in black
Digital: Casio A168W-1 with original metal band
Mechanical: Seagull Skeleton M182sk with brown leather band

Good choices? Any recommendations below 150? Poor as fuck.

I have an analog-digital Casio with that moonphase indicator from back when I was a teen and that piece of shit has abysmal LEDs.
go for EL whenever you can. even that posted Casio would benefit from it functionally and aesthetically. those LEDs can suck a lot and I still can't believe that Casio are such cheapskates not to include EL in every digital watch they sell and most importantly still don't use metal casing but painted plastic instead.
