What /skin/ approved prevention methods are there for pimples?

Cetaphil is a bit light for me, but it depends on your skin type. If you're over drying your face because of acne though, then you do need an stronger moisturiser. Also, remember not to wash your face with hot water, if you forget to use lukewarm then always use cold.

If Cetaphil is right for you just rub it between your fingers to warm it up a bit before application.
Then dab carefully on your eye area with the ring finger.
With leftover product can just go ham over your whole face.

I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

>> No.10100335

You should apply it every time after you wash your face which should be morning and night, also applying a sunscreen during the day and a night cream during nights.

There's a misconception that acne = oily face sometimes your face is oily because you have dried it out with harsh products.
If you're using Cetaphil face wash, this shouldn't be a problem (it's really the only cleanser that doesn't break me out). In order to counteract the acne though I use benzoyl peroxide 5% gel on problem areas during night, and apply heavy moisturiser and night cream over it. If you just use the BP by itself it'll be too dry and turn the skin red and sensitive.

Hi, I've been using pic related for about month now, and I don't see any results on my face. I still have a lot of black heads on my face and I have a lot of dark spots and acne scars around both my cheeks. I'm thinking of getting the post-acne spot lighting gel for this, but it doesn't solve the blackheads on my face. I'm also growing hair on the top of my nose.

What else should I do? Should I exercise more, drink more water? Should sleep earlier, should I eat better (what food I should be eating)? Shower less/more?

Maybe I should keep using the products just a little longer.

>>10102877
What the products in the picture are doing is this:

CeraVe Cleanser
- Gently cleanses your skin from excess oils/dirt/bacteria, without drying your skin and irritating it and making it oilier.

Cetaphil Bar
- Pretty much the same as above, but not really "meant" for the face.

Cetaphil Lotion
- Hydrates very effectively and generally doesn't irritate dry and sensitive skin.

COUI Sunscreen
- Protects your skin from sunburn and photoaging, with a light formula that shouldn't make your skin oilier/shinier.

I don't really see why these products should have given you any direct impact on your face in regards to acne, except for the cleanser helping your skin to not get even more acne.

The routine you seem to have is a maintenance routine that is something I would personally recommend for problem-free skin that is just trying to maintain a healthy skin and protect it from signs of aging.

It's great that you're using sunscreen, as this helps prevent your dark spots from getting darker/bigger - as well as protecting the scars.

If you're interested in getting rid of blackheads, then a mild first thing to try is some OTC product containing salicylic acid (1-3 times/day), or some kind of alpha-hydroxy acid.

Then you can also try OTC benzoyl peroxide (preferably @ 2.5%).

Then we have options like DUAC, and certain "topical retinoids" that can be used primarily against non-inflammatory acne (like blackheads). See a derm for that kind of treatment.

The Murad gel may help with hyperpigmentation, provided that the pigmentation is rather superficial. Retinoids can also be used for this, along with several other substances. This is something you should ask a derm about. Hyperpigmentation can be tricky.

As for diet, dairy and high-GI foods are the most common suspected perpetrators.

For permanent hair removal, try lasers.

Also, nice dubs.

>it LOCKS IN existing moisture

To some degree. It partly works as an occlusive.

>meaning basically it does nothing in terms of immediately moisturizing your face after you go through the whole cleansing routine

That would be true if, and only if, the Cetaphil lotion only worked as an occlusive. Cetaphil has different ingredients, and primarily works as an humectant, but also as an occlusive.

Cetaphil is a water-based moisturizer. This means that it actually does provide moisture (water) immediately, and it also keeps providing moisture to the skin as the 2nd main ingredient - glycerol - attracts water from the air. This is the main humectant part.

The occlusive (and general emollient) part is mainly derived from shea butter/macademia nut oil.

By the way, if you would have read the main description for the product you would have found these pieces of text:

>Daily skincare designed to intensely hydrate dry, sensitive skin

>Fast acting hydration clinically proven to last 24 hours from a single application

Implying I would put something in my skin if I didn't know the effects.

Long-term BP use has showed no negative side effects from clinical studies. What it has showed is the production of free radicals.

Free radicals are known to break down cells that give your skin elasticity (which is necessary for healthy skin) which would not be so great long-term. However, acne itself creates free radicals and is terrible for the skin long-term. The sun also creates free radicals and other things as well.

In my opinion, it's better to have NO acne and have free radicals burning through my face than have acne and free radicals burning through my face. Lesser of two evils.

I wouldn't use a cleanser with exfoliant every day (or at all), it tears at your skin.

I think you should use a more gentle cleanser (Cetaphil), and maybe a konjac sponge with the cleanser every couple of days.

Those bumps on your skin might be closed comedones and the red may be hyperpigmentation from acne. For the former, you should include an AHA in your routine. As for hyperpigmentation, keep your skin moisturised and apply sunscreen daily, and it should naturally fade. If not then a vitamin c serum or niacinamide should help.

Exfoliating cleanser is what the product is - not exfoliator and cleanser.
I use it with a SPF 15 face lotion.

Gentle cleanser sounds good, but what's a konjac sponge?

Also, what's AHA?

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm not very skin-careful but I figured I should start caring so I'm trying to learn the ropes.
Thanks for your help!

Nooo. Don't scrub your face.
This should be your routine:

Morning:
Gentle cleanser (I recommend Cetaphil)
Moisturiser of your choice (people here like Cerave or Cetpahil, they're both cheap)
Sunscreen (Biore uv watery essence is good and on amazon)
Make-up

Night:
Eye make-up remover if you go heavy on it
Micellar water (Garnier is the cheapest) to remove make-up using a cotton pad (don't use wipes)
Gentle cleanser (use with konjac sponge every couple of days)
Either 2% SA gel or 2.5%-5% benzoyl peroxide gel on problem areas (never both because they can irritate), I would start with BP, if there isn't noticeable improvements in 2 weeks switch to SA
Moisturise
Night creme (opt)

If you don't see any effect within a month, post back here.

Stoping using that cleanser, it's likely what's making your face irritated and red. The exfoliant (beads in the cleanser) is causing micro-tears and in the long run you will have broken capillaries (red veiny patches) on your face.

Replace it with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil which doesn't have soap in it.

Also, I don't think that SPF is enough, sunscreen and moisturiser should be two seperate parts of your routine.

Start with using benzoyl peroxide 2.5-5% gel at night. If that doesn't work go with 2% SA, if that still doesn't work go on to AHA and BHA (this is an AHA >>10105203, and BHA would be stridex).

Google konjac sponge, it's cheap and a good gentle physical exfoliant, you can probably find it on amazon.

When you get it it should be a hard sponge, once you leave it in water for ~20 minutes it will go soft. Wash with the gentle cleanser, and use the konjac sponge as a scrub (it is very soft so won't cause any damage). When you're done splash face with water and wash sponge by letting it absorb with water a few times and squeezing out the excess.

Let it dry on a hook, it should become stiff again in a few hours. Repeat process when you use it again.

I'm the sweatguy, I don't really have a routine, I usually put on sunscreen before I go outside, unless I'll be out very briefly. I wash my face a couple times a day and shower, moisturizer when my skin feels dry, usually a light Cetaphil, but occasionally a think AHA or BHA I don't know Eurcerin, I think, moisturizer before I go to bed. I use some salicylic and BP acne medications in the shower or with face washings.

It sounds like heat rashes. If you're overweight, it will go away with weight loss. If not, to prevent it and still work out, you should wear loose fitting clothing, and keep yourself hydrated at the gym. It'd help if the place was air-conditioned, but of course that is not always an option.

Lately I've been getting this bad skin on on side of my face, it's pretty dry and flaky too.
I've been using Clearasil rapid ultra pimple cream in the morning and evening, plus their shower face mask every night.

In short, the products are fine and GoodGuide is shit.

Just because some people here turns like weather-panes based on new information, it doesn't mean that me and based yoke can keep writing explanations for why every specific product is in fact not harmful.

In order to determine that a product is in fact bad for you, you need to consider if it contains a harmful substance with harmful properties in the final formulation, in a high enough concentration that it will cause harm to you based on regular usage.

GoodGuide is to be completely disregarded, since it doesn't take into account:
- All of the actual safe limits established by health authorities, and the scientific /consensus/ on the substances
- The concentration of the substances in the product
- The harmful properties of the substance in the final formulation of the product
- The individual exposure to the substances based on regular use

It simply just goes "this product contains a bad ingredient, and therefore the entire product is bad", and that kind of reasoning is retarded.

Also, GoodGuide simply cannot be trusted from a scientific point of view since it has ad partnerships with companies whose products they recommend (financial conflict of interest).

What follows is general information on how you can reason when it comes to product ingredients and health.

>> No.10110367

>>10110362
1st of all:
Has the substance a potential for harm?
In most cases, the answer is yes. Most substances has a capacity to cause harm to organisms if they get a high enough exposure. This is even true for things we need - like water, ordinary table salt (hypernatremia), and even oxygen (hyperoxia). Toxicity is always DOSE-DEPENDENT.

2nd:
The above brings us to the concentration of a substance in a product. This factor is essential since this affects the final amount of the substance that we are exposed to. Manufacturers always have a legal responsibility to not exceed the established safe limits for product ingredients. They generally tend to use concentrations way below that maximum limit.

3rd:
Is the potentially harmful properties of the substance "preserved" in the final formulation of the product? Highly corrosive sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is added to many products to balance out a too-acidic pH, but that doesn't mean that the final formulation is highly corrosive - since the ingredients often react with each other. The fact that a harmful substance has been added to a product doesn't mean that it still has a capacity to cause harm.

4th:
How is the product used? Even if a product contains a potentially harmful "active" substance at a safe concentration, the product can still cause harm if it is used wrong. Apply AHA to your face 20 times a day, and you will be exposed to harmful levels of AHA. Allow a wash-off product to be left on your skin, and your skin will probably be irritated. Painkillers will kill your liver if you eat too many. Safe products are only safe as long as they are used the way they're supposed to be used.

Substances are used because of their chemical properties, and you need to find the balance between their desired function and their possible side-effects.

Following the usage recommendations on the products will keep most people safe from harmful side-effects, while allowing the products to work the way they should and help you.

Salicylic acid as an ingredient in cleansers is not as effective as an ingredient in leave-on products.

It takes time for the salicylic acid to work properly as an exfoliator at those low levels, but it has probably helped bring the skin pH down closer to healthy levels already.

I wouldn't expect that much of a change using that product alone, though.

You should use it with the simple moisturiser day and night. Would be good to add a salicylic acid gel as spot treatment too for night time. As >>10110492 said, the wash alone will not be effective. For day time I would also recommend adding a sunscreen for anti-aging purposes.

It looks gimmicky, will probably spend entirely way too much on it then only use it a couple of times.

There's not much you can do to reduce aging aside from cosmetic surgery. AHA is an exfoliant that can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles slightly. For deep wrinkles though using it with retinol is best (there is no research to prove they can't be used together) as it helps generate collagen to improve elasticity of the skin.

To prevent future wrinkling, apply sunscreen liberally during the day, keep hydrated, and sleep healthy hours.

Tepid's fine, just nothing extreme for your skin gnome sayin

If it persists then buy some Head and Shoulders shampoo. It's known for treating dandruff and smells pretty too

Judging from previous treatments it might be psoriasis. See your gp and he'll give you some medication to put on your scalp that should clear it straight away.

Wouldn't bother with toner, just get your basic routine down. Cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen. Clean pillow every night, flip them so you don't have to launder so often.
