Hitler wasn't a good artist because he barely mastered the basics of painting. Same goes with people like Van Gogh that everybody tends to dickride although he couldn't even produce a decent perspective.

Although i do not feel the need for every piece of art to be very technical, it is true that current contemporary art is mostly about money, rather than art itself (think Jeff Koons, Murakami, etc).

This is probably a stupid question but how do these artists all come up with these works? How do they develop a style? Technical skills aside. Is it something they learn or did they become artists in the first place because they had a vision they wanted to share? Do they do the art purely for themselves or did they learn how to make their art more visually appealing?

I am asking because I always wanted to create art but at the same time I don't have any creative ideas so if I had the skills I fear my art would be like an bad copy of someone elses art. Sure famous artists were also influenced by other artists but their work still had a big amount of creativity. I wonder if the motivation "I want to make good, visually appealing, unique art" is wrong and if the style should come from ones personality instead of a desire to be unique and appealing.

creativity comes with creating. start with simple ideas. use your mind like you would use your eyes.

don't try to make 'art'
people nowdays forget that it's the (learned) spectator decides what's art and what's not. no-one should have the right to self-proclaim itself 'an artist'.

To make conceptual art you have to be full of shit, otherwise you can't take your own work seriously.

I've been making art since about 10 years now and it's my main activity in life for about 4 years now.
My advice would be to just do it. Your first works will obviously suck but that's the same with every new thing you start with. Also don't be afraid to copy things. I've studied art history and let me tell you: everything is a remix of a remix of a remix. There is no artist ever that just created his art in an absolute vacuum. Even big names like Rembrandt pretty much blatantly copied aspects of other artists to sell more paintings.
With time and experience comes innovativity and progress!
Another thing is: learn the basics!
Even if you want to make abstract stuff you really need to learn how to draw naturalistic first.

I hope that helped a bit.
Keep at it anon!
