I get the impression they aren't really regarded well here. Why's that?

I mean, I'm not trying to compare them to CPs or MMM, for example—considering their price range, what's so bad about them? Or are they actually pretty okay?

>> No.10031959

>>10031938

Quality is pretty poor and styling tends to be too ambitious given how lackluster their manufacturing is. Their Rise collabs were decent, but still nothing worth writing home about and they ended that program pretty quick.

The main issue is that if you buy them, you run into things like having to resole or repair and then you're just throwing good money after bad. Might as well save your pennies if that's what your price range and buy something mid-price on sale instead.

So what are these options, specifically? What brands/retailers are you talking about?

Sorry if pleb.

>> No.10032159

no one's going to give you answer because they don't actually know what they're talking about

What sort of budget do you have and what are you looking to get?

>> No.10032276

>>10032167
Usually about $100-200 but I'm perfectly willing to spend up to $300-350, but ONLY if the sneaker seems really worth it (aka stands out among other models in terms of how it looks). Even then, I don't necessarily care to pay much for stuff like CPs when I can buy less pricier white minimalist shoes—the differences of the cheaper ones don't bother me so much, perhaps because I haven't really bothered paying a lot for stuff like CPs that are really minimalistic in the first place.

I'm not going out of my way to buy many more shoes at the moment, but I was asking about brands/retailers because you sounded like you might have some in mind that are better places to shop.

>> No.10032279

>>10032276

So...I can't really tell what you're looking for. Are you looking for a sneaker with big, bold, splashy design elements (i.e. not CPs) or were you trying to find more stuff that's minimal, but minimal in a different way?

Just hard to tell what you're after.

>> No.10032318

>>10031959
This so much. they can have some nice designs but sheeit you can get fucked over by copping their stuff. I grabbed a pair of suede boots from them a while back, they stained the fuck outta my socks and feet whenever they got even somewhat damp. that was after getting them sprayed down too

>> No.10032376

>>10031959
this is my experience as well. i've only bought 2 pairs of their shoes, and on really deep sales, but even at 50%+ off i was disappointed in the construction quality.

a lot of their designs really are decent, though, so they might be ok if you just want to try out a look for a while before dropping serious $$$ on a similar style.

>> No.10032988

>>10032279
Well, either, really. As I said, I'm not actively looking to buy shoes RIGHT NOW. I'm just trying to keep in mind different places I should be looking when I do go shopping for shoes. In general, if it's a bold/splashy (like you said), I'm much more tempted to spend big bucks on it, as opposed to more subdued designs that has (somewhat) adequate/similar replacements that are cheaper (eg—CPs vs, say, Stans, or something. Different in many ways, sure, but they're both pretty minimal white sneakers).

But think about it more in terms of "better replacements of what Aldo currently offers" rather than "what do I (the OP) want now".

I've had mine for at least 4 years now and I love them. They're the only Aldo boots or shoes I've ever purchased so maybe I just got really lucky. My best friend has gotten a few sneakers from them and has had issue with them falling apart quickly.

How fast would you say they might break down? Assume a rotation of, say, 2-3 shoes, or something like that.

Mine were sneakers, but they were solid for a few (less than 6, I think?) months while I was wearing them 1-2 times a week. Don't know the exact numbers and I can't remember exactly what started to go first or anything, sorry.

No, they're shitty in every way. Just get some entry shoes like Johnson and Murphey or Clarks.

>> No.10033335

IMO Aldo makes some good designs, but lord almighty their quality is TOTAL SHIT

seriously. That would be OK if the price matched the shittiness, but nope. Aldo is hella expensive for shit that will fall apart within a year

>>10033172 in an exception. Just because by some miracle his shoes held up does not mean yours will.

overall Aldo is overpriced bullshit. If you can get it cheap go ahead, but I'd rather save up for at least decent quality sneakers.

There are SO many better brands out there

These >>10033316 brands are nice but they aren't really for sneakers, are they?

depends on the type of shoe ur looking for + ur budget

the one plus to places like aldo is that they make it easy for you to shop multiple styles
if you want more bang for ur buck it will take time to search because a lot of brands either sell only certain types of shoes, or shoes not within ur budget

never copped Aldo but these seem p good for the budget bois

NIke and Adidas make sneakers that are excellent for the money.

Cps have no style or soul anyway. They're just plain old man shoes.

>> No.10033404

i will say that it's one of the only places to get "interesting" (as in designer-inspired, on-trend) shoes at fast fashion prices, but like it's already been said quality is really really bad. my old aldo shoes from high school were one of the only pairs of shoes ive ever owned that are literally destroyed, like sole coming off and everything - the other was a $10 canvas shoe from urban outfitters, go figure

/fa/ might not approve but GREATS brand from NYC actually makes a decent sneaker

check out their Royale sneaker pic related

u can debrand them as well

I bought a really nice pair from their mr b range when it first came out, don't wear them much but they look brand new after 4 years. regular Aldo looks like garbage and falls apart.

Mr. B's is the way to go if you must buy Aldo. They hold up pretty well and the ones I copped were made in Portugal, so they're a little bit above their regular Chinese stuff.
