No. The only waste of money involves watches you don't wear Anon. What are you wearing today, Fren?

>>17936273
Nice! How's it running?

>>17936274
Hope they are enjoyable!

>>17936294
Disagree; Rolex has social status and a lineup that is instantly recognizable, Cartier has been killing it recently with their Santos, and PP is always a company that others in the same price bracket are compared to. The brands all have their place, and rigidly do everything they can to maintain that space.

>>17936326
It's not about value retention. If you wanted that, then Rolex and PP are the only ways to go in this current market. ALS is about artistry and heft.

>>17936333
Agreed, and really like the 3919. The proportions on the larger one (5119) from the pic in >>17936366 look wrong due to the small seconds being too small and the roman numerals being spaced too far apart.

>>17936334
I'm here Fren, just for a moment, and just for you. How are you today? What are you wearing?

>>17936376
They're still doing a lot, but since the big-watch trend is starting to shift, the designs are adapting. Smaller cases, less water resistance, women's models, etc. I stop by my local Panerai boutique once in a while, and it seems they're doing okay (i.e. still selling watches).

>>17936407
They're great, but you need a watchmaker to bring them back to life if you don't want to pay absurd amounts. They should be flyback chronos, which are slightly more complicated from this era and parts may not be easily available. I thought about getting one years ago, but my watchmaker advised to avoid unless it's complete and working 'exceptionally well'. I trust my watchmaker.

>>17936420
Since I hate the nipple indices on the Bathyscaphe, I'd say go with the Cheese.

>>17936441
Disagree. Lots of people save up for what they want. The real question is whether or not the saving is actual disposable income or if the person is siphoning from funds for living.

Well, you're in a good place; you're working hard at what you do, and as you say you've had a great year and a half. Consider that we live in a world where dating is on the one hand 'easier' (far more fish in the sea due to online dating) and as a result far 'harder' (hypergamy gone wild). You're not old, which is great, and there are many women who might be looking for a guy who is 'settled' in terms of job. Sure, you still have to play the role (i.e. provider, stabaliser, etc.), but it is appealing to many more women than you might expect. If you're not already doing so, start working out. You don't have to go full otter mode, just enough that you are able to show off your power. Then, and this is awful to say but true, you have to be proactive and immune to failure. It seems to be a biological reality that men will always have to make the first move, and the fantasy that a women will suddenly notice a man and ask him out remains just a fantasy. There are places to meet women irl, still, but it all depends on the culture you live in, the societal expectations, etc. Don't lose hope, even if you get rejected. Quite honestly, the ones who end up with women are the ones who 'get up and try again'.

Maybe the embittered Anon is talking about the implied 'watch journey' that so many YouTubers endorse: i.e. start buying cheap stuff, and then move into more expensive as you go.

I hate the watch journey....to me it's a waste of money. But it definitely keeps people like Bald-ass in business. I never had a watch journey; it's was more of a 'create a list, check it twice, and then buy'. Watch journeys are for people who would prefer the thrill of buying to the quieter enjoyment of curating.

This place is dead, therefore I'll ask a /wt/ question to you all that is perhaps more pertinent than it was before.

Now that Covid is over, and people have returned to their normal lives of traveling and eating out, do you think the watch market will return to pre-Covid times?

This doesn't just include Rolex OPs, Milgausses, and Subs trading for under MSRP, though that is part of it. Moreso to the perspective that watches would begin to diminish in their relative importance online as a commodity, a store for wealth, and a bragging right.

What say you?
