What is /fa/'s opinion on the "uniform" of the premier fashion forum, r/malefashionadvice?

I have an event coming up and I was told that I should dress "smart casual". But I fucking hate button up shirts. What can I wear?

It's an ready made art exhibition if it helps and I'm there since I've made most of the stuff there from the designers blueprints.

Also I'm central European.

Asuming you're not larping, start with the safe mfa uniform, yes it is unoriginal, yes it is not impressive, but you'll look good by normie standards. After having built this basic wardrobe and you get a good feel of what you like then you can move to more risky stuff.

I don't know if any of you have had similar experiences over the years, but I fear that I'm currently using clothing as a coping mechanism to deal with a lot of other crap I'm facing in my life (just finished my Master's degree, but have no idea what comes next). In doing so, I've created a year-long clothing plan, which includes 7 sports jackets, cords, chinos, Barbour jackets, more Loakes/Meermins, etc. I know how stupid it sounds, but I'm looking forward to this time next year once it's done so that, no matter what happens in life going forward, I'll at least be able to put together some badass outfits. Honestly, I don't know how to get out of this ridiculous obsession. What's your advice? How have you dealt with similar conundrums?

This is why instead of dressing fashionable you should just dress basic.

Throw on a light blue uniqlo OCBD that says "I'm mature enough to not wear graphic tees but not fashion smart enough to coordinate more complicated layers".

Some dark jeans that say "I'm beyond dad jeans and immature jeans but I'm afraid to experiment with high fashion distressing or formal pants"

Some CDBs that say "I'm mature and formal while being rugged and casual at the same time with these real leather, classic, and smart footwear", maybe some white sneakers to show you're more casual but don't like bright chunky stuff like skechers or NB shit.

Finish off with an undercut and a cheap minimalistic watch and maybe pack a calculator in your leather backpack to keep count of all the pussy you're getting.

Why isn't there an effay uniform?

I like when the average joe dresses badly like this because it makes my boring, safe, and basic outfits seem way better. If everybody dressed relatevely well then one would have to try harder in order to stand out as a person with good taste

If 80% of people wear sock and sandals,camo cargo pants and running shoes, badly fitting clothes, ugly distressed denim and a graphic t-shirt, etc... Then it makes me seem way sharper dressed, even if my outfits are basic and the remaining 20% dress better.

This is a selfish POV and I guess it's kind of offensive to fashion since fashion is not only about dressing to impress but making your clothes and expression of yourself blah blah blah etc... But this is how I feel sometimes.

This is the MFA uniform, what is the /fa/ equivalent, i.e the most basic outfits that will make people not laugh at you.
