You know who you could actually read for one of those wow moments, and I'm proffering delusion here, but Chris Langan. His use of language, getting you to accept certain phrases with reference to things they usually wouldn't go with (eg. free will -> random, meaning -> mechanics), really does generate a sort of epiphanic experience (I've seen it and corrected it, lol), it's marvelously insightful even if it is complete bullshit. Meh, I ruined it, but I've seen intelligent people fall victim to it, thinking they'd stumbled upon an actual logical proof of god's existence, and as good, where Langan only really hoodwinks you, it was impressive.

Epicurus, Mencius and maybe Heraclitus, depending on how you read him.
Epicurus is basically a direct rejection of Nihilism. The Emotion Machine by Marvin Minsky

Mencius is all about humanity's innate good, plus he's fun to read and not all abstract and boring.

I found Heraclitus to be sort of uplifting because his central idea is the inevitability and naturalness of change.
