People are generally too fat or indifferent to fashion to be effay. Plus for most states south of TN/NC it is too fucking hot and humid much of the year to try.

That being said, sometimes you can see good Western-wear inspired Country fits and Southern Ivy if you're in a wealthier suburb. Some things you don't really see outside the South much, fun pastels, seersucker, etc.

I've seen some rickety diy projects done for less than 100 but honestly I don't think the tapeless set up has ever been cheap. One of the best devices for tapeless recording seems to be the (discontinued) sony hvrmrc1 which is around 400 on ebay at the moment. There is also the more modern Atmos recorders which start at around 500-600 but I think can still be retrofitted to most camcorders. Honestly the powerplay thingy is pretty cheap by comparison if you're set on using a minidv camera. Lots of skateboarders have videos on how they set it up I'm sure they've figured out the current cheapest way. The silver lining of everything is that you could buy a camcorder with broken tapeheads since you're not using tape and presumably buy it for a better deal.
