No, you can wear a black strap watch with anything. Today it's okay to mix and match leather colours on clothing, though it isn't advisable. A short sleeve with a black leather strap will look just fine; very 60's/70's.

Other things to take into consideration are the colours available from the watch itself, the function of the piece, etc. Wearing a Calatrava on leather while dressing up to cut down a tree in your yard would look as odd as wearing swimming trunks underneath a shearling leather jacket; colours in this case don't matter much.

Yup, the 3861 is shorter from lug to lug, so the whole case will sit even smaller on the wrist than now. In all fairness though, the 3861, while similar to the 1861, handles and performs differently. It doesn't feel like the 1861 in any way, actually, even down to the winding. Anyway, there we are.
