People are wearing it because it's 'cool' and 'fashionable' but they have no idea who Joy Division are. They've probably only heard Love Will Tear Us Apart which isn't even on Unknown Pleasures.

Also Peter Saville thinks it's cringe and brought this up at a design conference a few years ago.
