that's something pretty personal which is going to vary wildly from one person to the next. some have always worn garments something like what we wear now, and these are just especially luxurious or well executed versions thereof. some do appreciate history or fashion history and select clothing that reflects that. some people watched a lot of black and white golden era hollywood films and like clothing that emulates the appearance. most people are probably a combination of these and other influences.
