I did a research paper on this topic recently. It's kind of funny how we look back at Chinese foot-binding rituals as abhorrent, but at the same time are perfectly okay with stuffing our feet into ridiculously-shaped shoes for the sake of fashion. Just a few months of wearing improper shoes as a baby can fuck up your feet for life.
