I've learned that with women, don't force them to be into watches. I agree with you that buying "fake" gold is a bit tacky but women don't seem to mind.

If you have the money to buy a real gold watch, consider buying something like the orient as a "tester" and just explain if she likes the look and feel, you could buy a real one in the future.

I did something similar recently where I bought a Seiko diver, wore it for a year, realised I liked it, then bought /picrel/
