because they are practical, used. Its like guitars with bands. New shiny Gibson looks good with artsy shit like Muse or Pink Floyd, but scratched broken guitar works great with punk or indie bands, like NMH - you know like banjo from grandpa. It makes the character more believable, thats why torn up pants never look good when they are new and Chanel dresses wont look good dirty if you are going for that aesthetic. Its connected to city surroundings too. It needs to be a whole complex look.
