Also, in that pic you can see why the Mercedes hour hand is very useful on a small watch. It lets you know it's exact position when it happens to be under the minutes hand.

Both are gorgeous, but the 114270 is more versatile and imo the ultimate utilitarian watch.

The 3130 movement, and every component of the watch in general, is purposefully design to outlive you. It's simplicity and ease of serviceability is genius.

If you opt for it, try and find one from the z series. They were the last models from the assembly line and are rock solid watches. Mine keeps +/- 0-1 spd easily during daily wear.

GS and Rolex approach design from two very different philosophies.

One is quite literally built Japanese design that actually goes back long before Taro Tanaka.

The other is just as impressive but comes first and foremost from an angle of almost pure utilitarianism and function over simple form.

The case design of the Explorer for example is literally designed in this way to withstand higher water pressures.

Both are literal wonders of engineering. If aliens came down and took a look at our tech they would probably be just as impressed by these things as they would be by microprocessors.

yeah, i noticed that apparently my watches are absolutely filthy. the more i zoomed in the more disgusting they looked. after messing around with this stuff i have so much more respect for people who take professional photos.

also pic related is what came out of it. i need to figure out how exposure works. even with all those lamps it still came out looking dark somehow
