ones done for and another is getting re-tooled. i want to launch a third but not during the next 2 years. i’m trying to figure out where the world is going and what i can do now to future proof myself in 10 years. i believe that in the future we’re going to see what i would describe as micro factories. current clothing factories the world over are designed around economies of scale. it works for mega brands but it’s never really worked well for anyone else. everything is going to get way harder and these types of factories are going to become a breaking point. it’s already the case that independent brands struggle to meet factory minimums. the most successful indepdent brands in the future will actually mimic the megacorps of the past 30 years. total vertical intergration. stuff like laser cutting, 3D printing, and automated sewing will make it much easier to have a factory with 10 employees that can make almost everything in a line. that’s my long term goal.

regarding school, i never worried about ostracizing myself. i always spoke my mind and asked a million questions. i was into different things style wise on a very surface level 7 years ago but the core of me was the same.

it’s unfortunate but don’t worry about anyone else at school besides yourself. i don’t really keep up with anyone i went to school with. the teachers should actually be your best friends. you get a limited amount of time to pick their brains and learn everything you can from their experiences and successes but also their failures. literally ask them about stuff that didn’t work out for them or they wished they’d done differently. it can be seriously illuminating. most people who go to fashion school are pea brainlets, they’re not interested in big ideas. most people in general are like that. once you’re in the industry it’s a bit better. you don’t get to choose your classmates but you can choose what companies you work for and who you reach out to.
