I don't like bleach blonde or unnatural colours, but I don't mind bleaching and dyeing black hair to brown. I think it helps soften the face a little by reducing the sharp contrast between the hair and skin, while still being fairly modest.
Pretty much every other East Asian celebrity or model has artificially brown hair, so it's very fashionable (in Asia). I know most western people probably have different values though, since they have much higher variety in hair colours and "pure" black is pretty rare.
