They look like dorsal fins because they are cut that way and he might even be wearing wire in there for it to look like that (not Adi). It's a conscious choice, a look of effort not comfort. The only difference I can see between that picture and this >>13318623 is that the breeches bulk is cut less pronounced in the "better" pic and the fabric seems lighter which is why it crinkles more. That sort of peasant look you seem to be so fond of is alright for SA lads and Selbstschutz Oberschlesien and the commies but it's not exactly what I'd suggest for an all leather outfit like this.
