The stepper rotor is six-pole in this movement instead of the usual two-pole, so an indexing finger at the seconds wheel is necessary to ensure the movement steps the right amount and in the right direction.

The other quartz movement I've seen that works similarly is the Citizen 8620, from about the same period. That has an eight-pole stepper motor, and the movement actually runs reliably even when the indexing finger is missing!

Some of the really unusual stuff going on. The rotor is six-pole, instead of the usual two-pole (I've done the Citizen 8620 before, which had an 8-pole rotor), and the stators are (for some reason) adjustable by eccentric posts.

The connecting ribbon for the coil block is also pretty flimsy, but I managed to fix that.
