If you're going into streetwear then my advice would be:
- Don't wear completely black and white outfits all the time, only un/fa/ people resort to this.
- Don't cover yourself in designer brands, keep an eye out for what's tasteful. Obvious branding can look cool sometimes, but mostly it's obnoxious.
- With the shorter stature, don't swamp yourself in oversized clothes. Flattering clothes for your body type should always be the number one priority.
- Don't be afraid of bold colours and prints. They are what makes an outfit great. At the same time make sure they don't clash, look at the colour wheel and at inspo for what works together and what doesn't.

Pinterest is always a good source of inspiration.
Look up magazines (here's a good list http://www.complex.com/style/2012/01/10-japanese-mens-style-magazines-you-should-know/7)), and get favourite models that you want to dress like (keep in mind the difference in body type though).

It's good to train your eye for what is tasteful and what is gaudy.
I would recommend Japanese streetwear fits, aside from the trashy overdone fits, it's generally tasteful and would suit us non-tall people. Personally I like Chasseur magazine.
