Does anyone know any good sub-200 automatic watches on a black leather strap

Alright, I have $4000-4500 to spend on a watch for my graduation gift. I definitely want something sporty, but one that could also be worn with a suit if needs be. I am also looking to buy pre-owned.

I am mostly looking at 40mm Panerais and a JLC Master Compressor, anyone have any other suggestions?

I want to purchase a new watch, but from what I've noticed from the watch threads is people seem to dislike quartz, and they seem to prefer mechanical. My problems lays with the fact that i dislike the bulkiness of mechanical watches.

What are the pros and cons of quartz watches? Why do some people dislike them?
