Fine. It's not waiting to fail. Why would it? Both the base movement (ETA 2892-A2 )and the chronograph module (Dubois-Depraz 2020) are excellent in that price category. I don't understand why you expect it to shit the bed...

Maybe a cultural background issue; I think Anon meant this: In the heyday of the shopping mall, one could get inexpensive watches (i.e. 20-200$) which had quartz movements but most importantly copied aesthetic elements from higher-end expensive watches. Invicta, Fossil, and other brands were well-known 'mall watches'. The finishing was not good, the movements were pedestrian and varying in quality and reliability, and essentially the function of the watch was solely to tell time without looking offensive to the untrained eye. Does that help?

>a trap
It could be, but sometimes the only thing to do is to 'spring the trap' and see what happens. It's not like you're going to a place that will put you in serious danger, and I'd guess you can 'take care of yourself' if anything went down.

Eternity is so much larger than us...we're just moments in the cosmos, milliseconds on a clock. If she shows interest in you, cool. If you like her, cool.

One thing though to be wary about: conservative Christians in particular may appear to be interested in a man but in reality are just being friendly in a Christian way. In other words, it's easy to misinterpret kindness for interest. In the world we live in, it's VERY easy to misinterpret this because so many people are the opposite: selfish or self-absorbed.

Also, the way you describe the first meeting...I'll be honest man, it is very similar to a 'friend' situation that church girls acquire. Going to church is definitely not a date...it's more of a 'sharing the Love of Jesus' kind of comradery.

If I were to dare to give advice, I'd say just be reserved and make God the first priority when you meet up with her. Then, if all goes well, ask her out on a date (i.e. be clear with her that you are asking her out as a potential mate, and not as a friend). Then you'll have your answer as to if she's interested in you as a friend or as something more.

Sadly, you must spell it out for her, because she may not think that her attention to you is anything except Christian Fellowship, and she may interpret your willingness to go to church with her as the same. If you're interested in her romantically, you'll have to declare that early, or else your time and money may be wasted.

Good luck, my friend, and may God go with you.

additionally; the choices are so numerous now from established brands and microbrands that you have quite a huge ocean of watches to choose from.

I guess the only other question to consider is, 'are you going to be happy with 1 watch, or will you want more than one for variety?'

Awesome read Anon, thanks for posting!

It might make the watch seem too expensive for what you're getting.

Nice! Keep the technique sharp, and keep on bettering yourself!

It's when the watch is submerged that is the problem, not rain or snow.

I have two day-dates; which one did you mean? The 3520.50 or the 376.0822?

The camera is VERY old...one of the first digitals that came out that were pocket-size...lol I can't be bothered to get a new one.

What are you wearing today, Fren? It is a watch thread, after all, and it lives by posting watches!

Great advice, Anon; always hold family close, and time marches on faster than we think.

>>17904486
For sure; most of the co-axials straight from the factory I've encountered hold excellent time (i.e. +/- 1 or 2 seconds a day) with regular wear. If you have an older movement it can be a problem though. My 1861 that was serviced came back running around +7 per day, which is awful. I'm not going to take it to my watchmaker until the warranty period is over though. My 2254.50 is always ahead around +4, and my 2599.80 is much closer (around +2). Still, all of them were serviced by Omega, and I'm not opening any of them until the warranty period is over. I already had to send in the 2599.80 a month after service due to a bezel problem and a chronograph seizure, so I'm not rolling the dice just yet on the others. lol I won't let Omega touch my vintage ones though, and that's why those ones run well. The Zenith came back from factory essentially perfect, which is what I'd hope for and why it beat out the 0100 over the year. So, I guess I can give a +1 for Zenith servicing, if it's sent all the way to Swiss-land.

>>17904496
The gaskets may have turned to 'goo' if the watch was subjected to water over the lifespan. But that's not the primary problem. The movement should run, but run slow, and if there is automatic winding, then if the lubricants have dried up you might be getting a little metal-on-metal wear and tear which is not necessarily ideal. But wearing it for a day won't destroy it, so if you only wear it two times a year, who cares if the gaskets are gone (as long as you're not swimming with it).

It sounds like you want peace-of-mind; if you do, get it serviced from an independent post-haste, and then wear it and enjoy it. I had to make the same decisions with my predecessor's Omegas as well; I serviced both because I wanted them to run and also because of a fear (unjustified) that if I needed parts, I wouldn't be able to get them.

Nice; how is it running? As for the GMT, are you thinking of more Rolex, or another option? I think the Rolex is the most iconic GMT...but it might feel like 'more of the same' for you.

Love the gold-gold Presidents....admittedly I've always been partial to the champagne dial with baton indices. Classic yet still somewhat legible.

Prices are definitely dropping on the secondary market now. Keep your eyes open, and maybe wait a few more months. I've even seen inventory in the ADs now, so that's a sure sign the grey market will drop further.

Disagree. Just be careful with delicate things. A 'tool watch' assumes that you're not abusing the item. A hammer is a tool, but so is a scalpel.

Maybe I'm not clear, so I'd like to be.

Does anyone ask, 'why is the Rolex Submariner a better alternative to the Omega Seamaster'? No, because the Rolex is superior, and everyone knows it.

Interestingly enough, when it comes to designs, no one puts up a YouTube video talking about the...'best alternative to the Universal Geneve Poulrouter'. There is no alternative...you get the real thing, or you go home.

So, the point I'm getting at is that the Lunar Pilot will always be a cope; partially due to the use of a quartz movement vs. a mechanical, but also because it'll never be perceived as the original intent. Obviously, it's far less expensive than a Moonwatch...but the cheapness manifests itself in the fit, finish, and experience of wearing the watch on the wrist. There is no argument to be made not to save up and buy a Moonwatch and forego the Lunar Pilot, other than the personal reasons of liking the design or the quartz accuracy (which are both valid reasons to decide upon).

Watches are stupid...lol

>pic unrelated. It's cheap, and I love it.

I have 4 Speedies and 2 Semens. No need for papers since I won't ever sell them.

Agreed about 'no imagination'....they do all look alike, don't they? And yet...they are perfection.

Imagination is, to be blunt, a falsehood to encourage you to buy that which is instinctively abhorrent (a leftover of post-modernist visual art). The real 'win' is in discovering what is attractive to your eyes, and what you'd love to see on you wrist every day. Ignore the rest...

There are hobbies that require nothing to participate in but still money to support. You can exercise without money...but you need money to buy food to recover and build muscle. You can read at a library, but being able to make the knowledge you've gained useful can require money to start or to activate.

Given that this is a 'watch thread', it may not be able to exist without the assumption that money is required to buy a watch, the tools to service a watch, or even bare watch parts that you intend to assemble yourself.

I would agree that YouTube presents it as a consumerist hobby...because that's how YouTubers get clicks and make money. In modern times, no one cares that the Citizen 0100 is the most accurate autonomous movement on the planet...but they do care if Rolex prices are dropping on stainless-steel models. You may hate the focus, but at least it's honest.

I'd agree about 'free time'; time is the most valuable commodity, and the more money someone has, the more time they pay for. I'm perhaps somewhere in the middle; I work hard so that I when I have spare time I fill it with things or events that I can enjoy. Maybe I'm like lots of other people. But I can say that it fluctuates...sometimes I have less time, sometimes more. That's life.

Most of the YouTubers are also supporting their own shops/stores selling watches or watch-related goods (like straps). Don't hate the player...hate the game if you have to. Baldassarre makes an effort, but like Federico, he's honest about what he does. He's pushing product, like all the rest. Once you get to Jenni territory, it's just about curating simps. Aren't you glad I don't have watch channel?

Well, I can highly recommend the Longines Ultra-Chron...I've had recent chances to handle it for a while, and it's a beautiful recreation. I have a soft spot for the Legend Diver too, and in general anything that they are issuing from a design in their back catalogue. Cartiers are always good, as long as they fit your fashion requirements (i.e. as long as you can wear them daily). Grey market is great for both brands, as they both take huge hits off of retail.

You might be able to find an Omega Deville Hour Vision for that price. Awesome watches...
