They should be readily available from an AD but no longer at a discount. Even the precious metal models which you used to be able to get huge discounts on.

The platinum DD is maybe the best watch Rolex make and comparatively stealth wealth.

I used to think the gold DJ and DD's were crass but now I think they are based timeless classics. The ultimate "fuck you I like watches" buy

Oh I thought you meant in comparison to the modern day Datejust. Because as far as I can tell they are the exact same thing with the exception of the day wheel.
I used to have the old Magnum PI GMT Master (16750 I think) which isn't even that vintage and I was disappointed at the time how basic it really was. Sold it to my dad a year ago and now I miss it obviously but I'll get another one and it's gonna be a modern one this time. It never occured to me before I bought it that the older ones never had the "proper" GMT hand that makes the watch what it is today.

Omega is for plebs. The obvious choice is a Rolex on a president bracelet.

Dumb question: Why doesn't Rolex make a solid gold Datejust?
They make the 31 mm Lady Datejust in gold with the president bracelet but the best you can get with the regular ones is two tone steel/gold. The Daydate is nice but I'm never quite sure if I actually like it more than the Datejust. The wide day aperture at 12 seems a bit much really.

I actually really like the Cellini but fuck paying 15k+ USD for the privilege of owning the least rolexy Rolex when I could get a more classic dresswatch like the Patrimony for the same money.
There's no way Rolex will ever adjust their prices back to a more reasonable level even if (and that's a gigantig if) the demand ever cools down. The bubble would completely burst and the would be that.
I was at the dealer the other day because of the Datejust I want to order and it was hilarious. Cases full of Skydwellers and Day-Dates and they didn't have a single Submariner, Daytona or GMT Master in the exhibit. They simply don't need to, if somebody affluent enough buys enough watches they take one out of the vault and offer it to him.
Even the other steel models were very rare, most of the store window was populated with diamond Lady Datejusts and Day-Dates.

It's working for them though and I'm even considering upgrading straing from the DJ to the Day-Date simply because there's less hassle involved and the step up in price isn't even that big anymore at this point. I can imagine that if Rolex didn't ahve these inflated prices customers might not have jumped ship to the steel Royal Oaks that much which are now in an even worse situation.

It's a great watch. Even the yellow gold version has it's place.

> The Sub is too overpriced and hot right now, and most of the other designs are kind of boring.
Agreed but the Datejust or especially the Day Date are great watches.
