i have some jewellery and accessories with iron crosses on them. i know they're supposed to symbolize courage and shit, but recently and for the first time ever someone called me out on them being used by the wehrmacht. i didn't really know how to respond, because i never bought them thinking 'that's a nazi symbol so i'll wear it to be provocative and trigger people.' thankfully i only have maybe $50 of accessories that feature iron crosses, but it'd be nice to be able to continue to wear them if i could find a decent explanation. 'it wasn't originally a nazi symbol, it mostly symbolizes courage, a little bit like a purple heart' sounds about as good as i can manage. i really like the aesthetic of the symbol, it's very simple and i adore what it's supposed to represent, but i'm not sure i want to continue wearing them if even one person just assumes i'm a naziboo because they see me with an iron cross
