(前略)服装は戦闘帽と団服に巻脚絆にリュックサックをかつぐという、わが国青少年団運動では最も通常で最も活動的なスタイルであった。しかしこの服装でベルリンに入ると、在留邦人達の目には日本を代表した青年団のもつ、外交的な意義からいって貧弱でみじめなもの、日独防共協定をとり行った東亜の盟主日本の代表青年団の名を汚すものとして、ヒトラー・ユーゲントの制服をまねて新しい服装を作ってくれた。

The uniform of the Greater Japan Youth League's clothing consisted of a quite active IJA-style field cap, our uniform, wrap-around puttees, and a rucksack. However, when we entered Berlin in this uniform, the Japanese residing there found this lacking and poor, and fearing that we would sully the name of Japan as the nation's youth representatives in the signing of the Anti-Comintern pact, made us new uniforms based on Hitlerjugend uniforms."
