Mechanical watches are more like some kind or art. Theoreticaly you are right, quartz would br the smartest choise but yet I find myself googling movements, reading up background info about different mainsprings or just looking through an vintage watch magazin because it's very nice to see how watches and the mechanics used to build them changed over time!

I work in the steel industry so I am realy into the engeneering and allways was fascinated what was going on behind dat dial. Also mechanical movements are fucking beautifull to look at even tho you have no clue whats going on.

Almost all my friends are tying to make a fool out of me, because I spent way to much money on watches but it's my hobby and in the end I can see how they start hiding there fashion shitters when I am around because they feel kinda embarrest.

Here have a picture of a beautifull Illinois movement build 1922 and still running well. There were no computers or calculators back then, just immagine calculating the gears needed and yet it runns great because some great mind was able to immagine and create this.

tl,dr.: There is no actuall benefit from mechanical watches.
