You can add someone and be connected with them socially without actually engaging them in frequent conversation or interaction. You seem them in your feed and they see you even if you don't comment or even like each other's stuff, like seeing them frequent the same places as you. Yet you still have their contact info if you need to get in touch with them

I don't like small talk in texting so I'm grateful, I can stay friendly with people without having to continuously message them in drawn out text conversations.

Old hs friends, family, etc. make the classic example, you're still "in touch" without having to make the effort to do awkward conversation every few months.

I have an account on vk, which is russian facebook, to keep in touch with some people I know and it IS a much better system. I really wish we used it here. It has slightly different design goals than facebook that makes everything a lot better. People's page's are more like a myspace page or something, without any of the atrocious css. They feel personal and discreet, not all interconnected like facebook.

And there's a streaming music app built right in that's really great, anyone can upload anything so you can look up songs like youtube, and easily add songs to your personal public playlists. So when you go on someone's page, you can just click to listen to their playlist. There are also a lot of great art/interest pages.

The teens you see on vk, even the normalfags, are all way cooler and more comfortable with their taste, with individually developed tastes, than most kids in America. I really think it might be vk's influence. Facebook minimizes media and personal taste and kind of encourages social circlejerking over anything, but vk puts art, music, etc in front.

that's not how it works. "fashionable" doesn't mean tied to the fashion world. it means it's in and cool. most runway soundtracks are dadcore jokes, even for 'cool' brands like SYL or vetements. if you actually filled your library with it, you'd be a joke

if you had to go that route, the direction would be something like following ln-cc and oki ni's store mixes anyway

otherwise it'd just be what makes you cool. as in, are you onto that new stuff before anyone, do you know what's up. problem is that's very scene specific, context is key because if you're /too/ ahead for your scene, no one will get it and think you're uncool. until maybe years later when they finally catch up.
you have to be just there enough that they can get it's next-level.
for example, is delroy edwards still cool for your friends? or trendy fuckboy tier? the same question can be asked for goscha. /fa/ is relative

and the problem with this thread is their 'scene' is obviously just other teen dorks on the internet, so they think reddit/mu-core is hip. they obviously don't participate in any real art scene

it goes without saying it's shallow waste of time and misguided, caring about what's fashionable. you don't get good fits like that, you don't get taste like that. at best you can just get good at imitating good taste. anyone who's really up there just does what they do, and they do themselves well, making whatever they're into what's cool.

the rare few with good genes, high enough in class to have decent taste and self-respecting enough to stay fit and invest in their image - i.e. every girl you know that "modeled" for american apparel - has lines of fuckboys to pick from

obviously exceptions exist, but at some point I realized they're mostly not worth bothering with at all. thank god I physically have a taste for asian physique or else I'd be so depressed
