Thanks Anon...I'm just happy I can share my enthusiasm about it with other Anons.

There's an old jewelry store my father used to frequent for presents for my mum. As these things tend to be family run, you try to get to know the owners so that they'll be friendly to you, and maybe give you a discount. Anyway, the last time I was in there with my father, I noticed in a tucked away corner some antique watches. My eyes passed over the pocket watch, but at the time I hadn't done any research on them so I had no idea what it was, only that it was a Waltham. That was about 8 months ago.

Yesterday I decided it was time to get a pocket watch, and though I'd been searching on Chrono24 and found a few good options, I remembered I'd never looked into the one at this store. So I drove by, and it was still there. After examining it and trying to contain my excitement, we struck a deal, and I was home with it.

It's far more rare than the shop owner knows. He misdated it at 1906, but it's really a 1911 (according to the movement serial number) and it matches the description in the Waltham online catalogue fully. The casing and movement are original, and it has only been serviced once (which is when the store acquired it 8 months ago). Likely it sat in a drawer for a long time or was used by the original owner and then passed down and forgotten in the time of wristwatches. So, heirloom likely.

The dial is perfect except for a hairline scratch near the 30 minute mark, and so far it's running a little fast (15 sec. per 24 hours from a full wind dial up). It's pendent set and not lever set, but that was standard for Walthams of this age and also because it's a sidewinder (crown at 3 and not at 12, but open face as opposed to hunter).

There's so much to tell, but bottom line is that it was far less expensive than the examples online, and in far better condition than those examples in this price range. I lucked out heavily.
