You ought to seek it through technology instead. I dislike Ghost in the Shell because I worry it shows an accurate future (and I would much prefer biological engineering to come to the forefront), but the idea of transcending through technology isn't a bad one. I don;t think people actually care about becoming something ageless or genderless etc etc, but if you could elevate yourself above actually unpleasant things, the tedium and hardship of work being an example, then you've pretty much solved it. Even if a company were to own your physical body and employ it, if your mind is elsewhere...well you're hardly going to care.
