Nazi / fascist aesthetics have a special place in neofolk because the associated regimes, which is not a condonation of their politics, represent a resistance to what can be seen through the mythical lens as the European apocalypse. In neofolk lyrics a central theme is the loss of multiplicity and ambiguity - Nazis and fascists are being venerated the same way that are Luddites and magicians, because like the latter opposed the unifying, streamlining and demystifying effects that technology and the cult of sciences had on modern society, they opposed the universalist politics of liberalism and socialism (although it can be argued that nationalism aswell is a universalist philosophy). For the same reason wearing soviet or allied uniforms to a neofolk concert would be out of place, because that would be understood as a condonation of these universalist philosophies which catalyse the loss of multiplicity - the multiplicity of politics, of peoples, of cultures, of faiths (hence the widespread opposition to christianity, another destructive universalist philosophy).

Plenty that do not allude to political imagery but to religious or otherwise ancient cultural symbols. Obviously soviet neofolk is not a thing though.

Some say this is neofolk but Jännerwein and Von Thronstahl aren't, some say the opposite. Regardless, I like to listen to them and so do most of my friends who are into neofolk.
