I'm trying to break into IR myself, but I'm lucky in that there's really only two ways in- meritocracy or nepotism- and I'm too introverted to ever consider the latter. Any job I land in the interim (think tank, consultancy, analysis, etc.) is just resume padding until I pass the FSOT or YPP and get thrown into a Mauritanian field office with a typewriter and a bicycle, to spend the rest of my life writing reports on electoral misconduct that nobody will ever read and requesting humanitarian assistance that nobody will ever deliver. Shits gonna be great.
