I am fully satisfied, and am coasting down the river of contentment, wearing any one I want.

I do see beautiful new watches every now and then, but most of them are Omegas. I love their huge ultra-deep, and it fits well on my wrist, along with other pieces. In terms of vintage, there are always one or two that I think would be awesome to add, but ultimately I find that it would be difficult to find time to wear them to their fullest enjoyment. That's the real issue, actually: I have enough watches for variety of form and function, but not too many as to have trouble wearing them.

I have others in my social circle who are also into watches but are completely different in terms of their aesthetic preferences, so I have the pleasure of wearing something 'for a week' to see how I like it (and I lend them mine as well). But usually it just reminds me how much I miss the one I lent them....lol

The other day, I lent the Mark40 away. After a few days, I was missing it, which surprised the hell out of me since it's worn the least now. What I miss is the heavy complication with easy legibility, which you can't find in many others that do the same thing. All of my watches represent 'the best' at what they do in my eyes, so everything new that comes out just becomes a 'variation on a theme' but not superior. Does that make sense?

>'Just' an explorer 39

The Explorer is a great watch man; so many great watchmakers love it for the style combined with unstoppable reliability. Sorry to hear about your Pam, but at least it'll be ready for water use when you get it back.

Out of curiosity: what is your feeling on the Explorer? I've been going back and forth on it for years, but since the Covid Rolex blowup, I was turned off by everything related. How do you feel about the watch? Would you have any negatives on it?

Tbh, try going again in person and see what is going on. My local Rolex boutique has a lot in stock, so getting an OP or a Datejust is easy (as long as I don't care about the colour or combination). They're getting more inventory now, and you're seeing grey market prices relax as well. Don't lose hope, Anon.

>>17936536
That's cool; I've never seen one before. >>17936540
I see what you mean about the case shape and handset. Re: military chronographs; how beat-up do you want the exterior? When I was looking years ago, there were enough that were beat to shit, but very very few in decent condition where I could be sure they hadn't been polished. It's a niche market for sure...

I think he tries his best, and like many YouTubers, his wrists are tiny compared to the general population, which affects his opinions directly on watchcase sizes. His taste is still developing, and hopefully he'll grow out of his aesthetic adolescence. I'm not sure if he continues his direction due to the obvious viewer base he has, or if he is really this way; perhaps a bit of both. How do you feel about him, Fren?

Fwiw, when it comes to YouTubers, I only watch a few (Fat Federico and WilliamSpeedmaster101), because quite frankly they are the only ones who say things that I find interesting and useful.

Because nostalgia and competitive design.

>...and grift
Anon, that's the business and the stats. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Baldass is another one who I think is genuinely doing his best, but has also realized that in order to make it worthwhile, he has to play every card possible. They do have a scent/perfume channel too, and there's good info there for beginners, so at least they're trying with decent production value. There's a reason why someone like me doesn't make a watch channel; the endgame is swift if you don't have new watches every 3 days and have nothing new to say on the old ones.

:)

Good Day, Rolex-chad! I was in my Rolex AD the other day, and they had tonnes of stock...I was gobsmacked, to be honest. I hadn't seen it like that since pre-covid. They even had those OPs with the dials that have the rectangular weave pattern on them...don't know what they're called, but for at time, they were 'in demand'. They had three green-bezel subs ready to buy, and shit like that. Very odd, but should satisfy those who want them. How is your Rolly running? Hope you avoid the crowds safely Anon!

>>17904411
In that case, it sounds like you are on the way. Then why are you concerned that your collection may have an 'autistic' origin? Why not just buy and wear what you love, and to hell with the rest? Sometimes, labeling a watch makes it seem like there is a justification to have the watch in the first place...but I think the honest reality is that we just like to buy things. You don't 'need' a chrono, or a beater, or anything else; you just need more than one watch. Embrace that, but make sure you choose carefully and avoid the trap of buying something now instead of saving and getting something closer to your ideal later. That's all.

I am here for you Anon.

>>17882362
I know from experience, and I'm definitely not guessing. My life is full, and I have been lucky, I know that. There are many others who suffer far more than I am, or ever have. It is never my intent to diminish the pain that people feel, only to help them to see a path forward in which they can take control of what is grieving them and strengthen their position in life.

The first thing that affects how we deal with anything in life is our perspective. It can galvanize us into action, but it can also sabotage our efforts if misdirected or coming from a place of despair. Therefore, I only ask you to consider it from a positive and loving standpoint, as that is always the best to begin with. It's not easy, of course not. If it were, more people would do it. I believe you can do it Anon.

>>17882363
I'm glad! I understand your 'downside' about not wearing it though, but at least you always have something to look forward to if elements of life are difficult. Wear it in good health, Anon.

>>17882364
Spot on.

>>17882369
You're kind, Anon, and I appreciate it. What are you wearing today, fren?

>>17882378
I wouldn't wear that if I were working outside either; I normally wear my Mark 40 which I could theoretically 'bash' around if need be. Ceramic is not hard-wearing if struck on the wrong angle by anything metallic.

Funny...they stopped coming to my door after I talked with them for a moment.

>feels bad man...

>>17852466
I did have to buy the 0100 new or else I wouldn't have gotten one given the production numbers...so, that's how much. Going over would require something absurdly special.

>it was direct from Japan, and the yen was absurdly low, so it was a great deal in the end.

>>17852502
True, they might be replicas. Then again, they might be real. You'll never know...

>>17852509
I'll disagree with you on this one. It's an extremely practical day-to-day watch if you don't care about watches. I had one for years in high school...awesome, legible, and convenient. The only reason I stopped wearing it was the rubber strap broke.

>>17852539
There isn't a limit. If I love the watch, I'll go for it for the best possible price in the best possible condition. Since I'm done buying now, it's no longer a factor.

>>17852558
My daily mechs keep a minute within a month. All you need is a trusty watchmaker to pull them into the range, knowing your wearing habits. My best wristwatch is actually my 321, even though it's not COSC cert or anything like that. It's just built well, and my watchmaker knows his shit.

For a mechanical watch to be reliable, all you need is to wear it regularly, store it consistently, and have a watchmaker pull it into spec for you. The problem can be that brands will void the warranty if they do a service and you have your personal watchmaker open up the watch after. So, the three I had serviced by Omega haven't been opened to adjust, hence they have varying degrees of accuracy compared with the ones I don't send to them. Win/lose.

>>17852578
You could save for a decade or more and get one when they're 'vintage'. These things go in cycles, and you'd be surprised at what is hot now and what won't be 15 years from now. Think about all of the collectors today who will grow old and sell their collections...who is going to buy?

Being 'into watches' doesn't mean you have to buy any of them. I am 'into' Rolex day-dates in yellow gold, but I don't own one.

You have nothing to lose in learning about horology from both a technical and aesthetic standpoint. Furthermore, it might help prevent you from buying just to buy rather than identifying what you love and saving up until you get precisely that.

Now that I have all the watches I've ever wanted, I find that I appreciate new watches but don't have a desire to buy; everything is a 'variation on a theme' of something I already own. So, while I can support my comrades when they buy a new piece, I also am quite happy wearing one of my own collection which will always be superior in my own eyes.

You don't need to afford a 20k watch to enjoy being into watches.

>pic related: I wore this today because I love it, it was my first Omega, and it's cheaper than a new Laco.

Do you like it? I mean, really? I've never seen the appeal. It has the classic OP/Datejust proportions of dial to case...but the rest of it seems haphazard. For the lightening second-hand, you need the sharp arrow hour markers of the original, which you don't get here. The green crystal, while unusual, is only interesting if you know it's the only model with a green sapphire crystal that is atrociously difficult to manufacture.

Help me understand the appeal, Anon. I 'appeal' to you.

>meanwhile...a watch people call ugly but is beautiful to my eyes. Clarity of the complex.
