My advice would be:

-Book Off/Hard Off are awesome large used bookstores/CD/DVD collectible stores. If you're in the market for any cool Japanese music/older anime/movies it's your best bet. Used shit is unbelievably cheap in Japan and almost always amazing quality.

-Eat at little hole-in-the-wall style places as often as you can. Just slightly off the beaten path almost always gets you way better bang for your buck on food/alcohol.

-If you're planning on buying a lot of clothes, take beater clothes there and just replace your wardrobe a little every day, then just throw out the clothes which you replace so you don't have to do as much laundry.
