Essentially what these guys said.
Let your hair breathe a bit m8. Wash it every 2-3 days and if you get to be basementdweller for some time: leave it alone completely. Your hair will be like shit but it will get used to not getting pampered with shampoo and crap. Afterwards, it will all be better. No oily shit hair and no dandruff either. Depending on the length of your hair (and genetics) the amount of days you "can" go without washing it will vary.

Wash your hair. Or don't, it's up to you. It can be easier to spot height differences/missed spots with unwashed hair.

Measure what your hair now is (using the guards, but don't pull your hairs, okay). How much shorter do you want it? I usually do 3-6mm differences between the areas.

Now that you've set the height for the top of your head, think about the sides and back. Do you want it to slowly fade to the back and sides, or do you want a visible difference?

I usually do, if I remember right; 18mm for the top, 15mm around the top (between the sides and top) and the twirl, 12mm for the neck area, 9mm for the side areas. Then I use a 3 or 6mm for the ends of the hair, on the areas behind and below the ears, and then 0mm for neck fuzz.

Last I cut/shape my burns with the 0mm and take a shower. Any height differences? Fix them. If you want to, you can break the hair on top a little with scissors for some texture.


That's it. Try things out, but be careful not to do too drastic lengths, try a little bit at a time. When you get the lengths and areas right, write them down.
