So no I don’t just care about innovation and wearability and nothing else. Some of my favourite designers like Henrik Vibskov and Carri Mundane do pure art stuff and I love it regardless. There’s plenty of room out there for everyone so don’t get it twisted son.

>One of those conversations was about digital printing on clothing as a medium, and his angle came down to (paraphrased) "this artist did all over digital prints with an Internet-influenced aesthetic back in 2008, so what you're posting is banal." But he thought it was cool and wanted to cop it anyway, and, like, isn't that the point?

Yeah Carri Mundane of Cassette Playa, go look her up she was doing that shit ages before everyone else. But you’re right, it’s big now and she probably wont make a nickel off it and that’s the way the world works. Cool people do it before anyone thinks its cool and get laughed it. 5-10 years later everyone loves it and they’re in the gutter while some fuccboi with a template makes big tumblr bucks.

All I was saying is if you know what’s up that shit is played, if you want to wear it to fit in and be cool at your university campus then be my guest but no matter how superficial it sounds I’d always rather be onto the next thing before everyone else and get to enjoy it to myself before it gets trampled by the masses.

Cheers, A

#4 does a huge amount of business. There's nothing more to it than that. It's too large to be a hobby and this has been obvious since 3-4 years ago.

Your line of reasoning regarding who buys Thamanyah is silly and stupid. Lamy, Owenscorp, and whoever else is involved in the whole thing obviously disagree with you because if they came to the same conclusions the brand never would have got the green light.

I'm out.

Did you even read that post? I don't hate him at all, I said he played an important role in my posting. In fact I will even go so far as to say he's more important than all the people who quote me and just say #rekt. It doesn't actually add anything to the dialogue we're creating (although it does extend it's life span, thank you everyone I appreciate your contribution!) but turnleft being retarded actually does.

Also for what it's worth Anorak V1.0 started off as very polite and cordial and got progressively less so. In my defence I post on other sites and have never stooped to such levels so maybe before you criticize me for turning savage you should take a look at the locale.

>what, a raglan? a simple boxy t shirt?

Yeap this is insanely ignorant and stupid as hell. I guess we better write off every other brand that does raglans and t-shirts. Design is not about reinventing the wheel. It's about finding what works and doing it well. Not everyone is trying to create high fashion avant-garde art pieces, even Walmart clothing is made by designers and has design in it. I bet you think their clothing lines are stupid as well and have no thought put into them. Guess what, you're wrong. The amount of thought that goes into cutting as many corners as possible and producing their clothing for the lowest price possible is insane, that's design right there.

Your definition of design is so narrow minded and retarded and based in judging jpegs on your fucking computer that I don't even know why I'm writing this reply. You never did read the interview did you? The guy has built an empire off having huge balls, he was way ahead of the ultra-lux trend and has managed to remix that stupid skull motif into a 15+ year career. Now who's the better designer, him or some CSM or RAFA grad that makes a whacky "engaging" graduate collection and then goes into a completely different field because they can't sell a thing.

Don't answer that, MMJ is dumb but you're even dumber.

Your personal opinion doesn't dictate what society deems attractive, and at all levels and price points in western society androgyny has been on the rise, infinitely more so than it was even 60 years ago. Seriously look at the big picture, look at fashion as a dialogue that stretches back to even just a thousand years ago. Never before in the history of human civilization have people dressed more androgynous than right now. There is no masculine garment women can't wear and it be deemed unacceptable by society and there are only a handful of feminine garments that men still can't wear and even that is being eroded in the most liberal of urban areas.

Doesn't matter what you or I personally think of it, the reality is that it's a massive part of the dialogue and defining what is today considered cool, sexy, beautiful etc. As I explained in my earlier post that's why I feel overweight people have so much more of a rough time today than 60 years ago. Back then men wore suits and women wore dresses, suits are built around adding structure which helped unshapely fat men and dresses can hide all sorts of gaffes the fat women deal with.

Fat people so often look bad today or have a perception that they can't look good because they're routinely forced into androgynous garments like skinny jeans in order to take part in fashion. Fat people deal with a paradox in that they have to wear certain clothes to fit in and the clothes that are cool and people wear to fit in do not make fat people look good at all and this in turn makes them stand out and look akward or bad.

I feel looking good and looking cool are often synonymous but in the case of fat people I think they need to forgo trying to look cool and keep up with trends and instead focus on looking good and dressing for their body type, playing up their gender, in the case of men focusing on the imposing size of their frame and with women accentuating the curves of their body.

Still Michel Brisson has stuff you can't find in Toronto like Dries and Saint Laurent, Savoie Fils is awesome although the clothes can all be found in Toronto at Nomad / Haven, Reborn always has cool stuff and the buyer doesn't seem to really have a lot of brand loyalty he buys what he likes and has a very French way of doing it which is a welcome change. So there is some cool stuff but I mean Denis Gagnon is nothing incredible and SSENSE is so online based I would hardly count it as a Montreal store. The Arc'teryx store is a nice edge over Toronto but I'm sure it pales in comparison to Vancouver. The Holts is a waste like every Holts and Simons is bizarre but you might find a diamond among the rough there once in awhile. All in all pretty solid and the trip really confirmed to me that the French stores care more about easy lux clothes while Toronto is more focused on crazy fashion nerd stuff, still the taint of catering to tourists is widespread in Montreal.
