Everyone starts out with an inexpensive grail. When I started, my grail was around $350, I just thought that was a lot to spend. I ended up buying my grail because of an unexpected store credit, and also because my idea of an acceptable amount to spend increased.

with boots I don't know, but I've heard it said that you should not wear shoes every day, at least space it out to once every two days.

>it sucks because i think they are really nice looking.
you will change your mind on that if you stick around for a while and keep looking at nicer boot brands online

with any pair of boots try to stay ever mindful of how they will fit into your outfits; having a ton of extraneous bells and whistles does not look good

in the end I ended up becoming a big fan of handsewns instead

oh dear. the first thing you need to know is: don't read the infographics. or at least don't take them too seriously.

that said, basics will not disappoint you in the long run because they can be highly adaptable wherever you choose to take them.

I discovered for myself that the best way to start yourself off (and it will make you feel a lot better) is to start with just a handful of basics and then work on getting started with some good shoes and one or two nice jackets, and this is the part where you really can't go cheap.

Shoe collections are hard to start but once you do, it can be a source of great pride. And shoes can be a great source of sentimental feelings as well, if you have them long enough. The first thing you ought to do is get one really solid pair of boots. Something with some elegance to it but in a standard brown or natural leather color that will be easy to match with whatever you wear.

Personally, I lean toward the workwear styling for this because they're tougher and you won't need to baby them quite so badly. They'll wear and age gracefully and by the time you go for something more delicate you won't be pressed by necessity to beat them up on a daily basis.

Don't do anything stylistically TOO bold for pair #1. Patterns or colorful highlights do not stay interesting when you see them every day. Go for simplicity.

I should restate that you just can't go cheap on this. The cheapest I'd approve of is Red Wings.

that said, feel it out
