There are new/modern watches that look great. I'm quite fond of Junkers and Nomas.

Vintage watches are not just "I'm being a classy gentleman from a classy era", it's also about the design of the times and the sizes. There are watches that have classic designs that won't look out of place now. There are also modern watches that is designed to look like a specific past era. So, what better way to get a watch for cheaper that meets one or both of those designs.

Watches now are generally on average 40mm+ and the smallest you'll find (for men) is 38mm. Those are quite large on my wrist (38mm being okay but the max) and need watches that are smaller. Before the modern era of watches, sizes were generally 34mm-36mm. Those sizes fit my wrist and works best.
