The same way anyone earns money to get through life. If you can't afford to comfortably buy at retail then you scout sites for second hand or wait for sale season. Also Rick is Rick, there really isn't anything else similar and designers that follow the same style aren't any cheaper.

What is legit-ness though? It might not be what Hedi intended but fashion has always been about making something new and breaking some of the rules. All it does is limit.

For example a$ap Rocky probably isn't wearing Rick Owens the way Rick intended or thought. But he makes it look great. If fashion doesn't branch out it can't grow and evolve.

Also, this is heroin chic so I think the standards don't have to be as strict as Hedi's. It's disheveled heroin addict style that we've found appealing
