/diy/ help me out.

One of my favourite pattern designers released a new jumper pattern this week (top photo) and I'm planning on knitting it up soon, but I'm having a hard time deciding on colours.

Her suggested yarn was Brooklyn tweed shelter but I'm not spending nearly £100 on a yarn that has to come with a warning that it can break if not knitted carefully.

Here's where my problem is though - is the yarn in the bottom picture a really ugly colour for clothing? I've had this problem before where I like what a yarn looks like in the ball then when I actually knit something and end up thinking "wow that's actually disgusting" so before I go buying 900m of it I'm seeking other opinions.
I like it but I have ugly taste in yarn sometimes. Initially I was thinking of making a dark greyish-teal or slate version, which is safer, but I'm wondering if the jumper is plain enough in style to get away with blue with an orange halo. (Though typing that I'm wondering if anything is plain enough to excuse blue with an orange halo).

Tell me if it's ugly because I need to hear it. And if anyone has any better colour suggestions I'm all ears. Haven't even decided what yarn to substitute in yet so I'm open to anything.
