Firstly, "Aesthetics" was and is ruined by people who learned about the word from the internet, usually stuff relating to vaporwave or similar neon 80's visuals.

To answer your question, I think it's as simple as paying attention to the appearance of things that would otherwise function more or less the same even if they didn't have a nice one. For example, I walked through a mall yesterday and passed a local cheap fast fashion chain clothing store. I thought to myself "the people shopping there are doing so because they need clothing, not because they care about how they look"; to them, clothing has the same function regardless of if it's a $1 shirt from a thrift store, a $10 tshirt from Uniqlo, or a $100 shirt from Auralee. They are unlikely to notice or appreciate the small details, unique fabrics etc that go in to making expensive clothing unique; they're simply buying and wearing clothing because they need to.

If you wish to focus more on this, you should aim to configure your wardrobe and your house or room(s) to what appeals to you, personally. Beauty is subjective - You can hang classical paintings and fine art photography on your wall, but unless those actually mean something to you you're not going to enjoy them. And yes, the meaning can be as simple as being excellently framed and looking pretty, as long as you do genuinely think that and aren't just hanging them on your wall because they were available and commonly accepted as beautiful.
