Damn, that's ugly! And a useless compass bezel to boot! But it would do the job. Gotta see if I can find one, but other suggestions are welcome.
Theoretically, some pilot-chrono would also work, but they're too expensive (except for the HKED homage, but I already have a ST19 watch) and not really waterproof. Don't plan on taking them diving, but I'm taking samples from rivers and fast flowing streams, so I'd really prefer a screwdown crown.

It's the HKED "homage" of the Bundeswehr/Luftwaffe Chrono from the 70s(?). Originally they've been made by Heuer, so searching for "Heuer Bundeswehr" gives you some from ~5 to 15k. Apparently, Sinn has some historical connection to refurbishing them or so, so they also got a new issue of their own.
But if you wanna stay <1k, HKED is the way to go. It's the generic Seagull ST19, that's in virtually every modern chrono under 1k nowadays.
