i started with monochromatic colors, white / gray / black tee, black skinny jeans (not spray on, but hugs your calves) some nice black snearkers. spend more money on outerwear to add a "complitcated" layer if you have the dosh.

boots are pretty cool, consider saving up for a pair. you should have bought a grey hoodie, much more versatile...

I agree that taste in any kind of aesthetic is subjective, but in my opinion, what separates the dad example and Yamamoto or Miyake is artistic intent. When you see the average fit in a WAYWT thread, I feel that only the smallest amount of personal artistic influence is going into those outfits, usually only stemming from what /fa/ has told them. But when you look at pieces from designers that break the traditional mold, you're truly looking at pieces of art. I guess that's just because of a multi tiered system, you have trends and fast fashion, and pieces of expression.
