The straps are shit, but work and fit the style of the watch, so you don't *need* a new one. And it's stainless steel (assuming you bought a new one, and not some soviet era ebay find), so you should be fine. And the 420 case is quite small, so unless you're a turbowristlet, you could simply get a cheap nato strap in whatever color you want. Or a Perlon. A bit harder to find, but not that hard. The gf wears my blue scuba dude on a blue perlon and it looks fantastic.
Zulu/5-ring can indeed be rather chunky though.

That's weird. I got some $1.20 or something ones, and they're the cheapest I ever found, and they're actually quite decent, so I fiugred approx. $4 and printed ought to be similar. Maybe you just got bad luck? I mean, it seems kinda hard to fuck up somehting that simple as a nato strap.

Why are nato straps "doubled up"?
Whats the purpose of having two straps under the watch? Zulus don't have them (but round buckles, so pic related is a nato-zulu?)
And why do they bulk up the watch so much on the wrist? Waht is this magic? It's like 1 mm of cheap fabric, how can that shit be so bulky?
