As a fellow NZ /fa/g, welcome to the board.
For starters, read the sticky and lurk more. As you do so you will either gain an appreciation for quality and appearance justifying spending more money than you currently would, or at the very least taste on a budget. However, you can't just expect to dive into /fa/ and be looking amazing on a budget. Start small ($85 for some sk8 hi-s) and don't buy lots of stuff in your early days. Your tastes will progress and you will have regrets. New zealand has a p. good clothing scene, there is a catagory for it in the sticky.
Seriously though for your current question sk8-hi's are pretty sweet. You can black out the white stitching with a sharpie or something to get a look like this.
