I'd say there's huge potential for this as people romanticize the concept of 'utility' and 'durability', and end up with goods that are dishonest to these concepts - whether through actual product quality or processes such as marketing, production, sourcing, etc.
However, what I (hope) OP is proposing is the rise of the educated, socially-responsible consumer who is aware of toxic trends and is genuinely trying to buck them
The problem is that pursuing these goals authentically is fucking difficult.
