I have the version 2 kanken which has some leather on it and I think the fabric might be different. I like it a lot, I think it looks great and it's been holding up well so far although I've only had it for a couple of months. I think it's pretty comfortable despite the thin unpadded straps, although I usually don't carry more than a textbook and a couple of spirals at most. It's a pretty small backpack but I think you can fit a surprising amount of stuff in it for its size.

I've been noticing more and more people wearing these lately, too.
