Top: Thin wool sweaters, either plain crew neck or v-neck if you plan to wear with a shirt.

Trousers: Get high waisted trousers. All of your trousers should reach up to your belly button. It's traditional and looks better proportion-wise.
Recommended number of at least 4.

Shirts: It's not that hard, get shirts that fit, go with a white button down, a plain white, a light blue, and a checked shirt.
Neckwear: Tie is optional but skip the crazy patterns. Striped is a good choice. Look into texture (wool, silk, woven).

Shoes: Penny loafers. They are one step ahead of sneakers when it comes to formality. I personally recommend this pair.

Jacket: I'd skip a sports coat or a blazer. Wear a thin cardigan instead.

Colors: Check the sticky but look into what works for you. Recommended colors are burgundy red, navy blue, khaki, ecru, bottle green, grey, chocolate brown.

Protips:

Look into dressing better. A lot of my professor have noticed and are far more likely to recommend you to others.

Natural materials only. Skip the synthetics.

Thrift. Almost every part of my formal wardrobe is thrifted. This way you can get quality items at a ridiculous price. If your thrifted garments don't fit you just get them to a tailor.
